Access To Care In The Homeless (Reach)

Another study, Research on Access to Care in the Homeless (REACH), focused on urban poor HIV positive patients and their adherence to their medications. The patients had to be taking more then 3 medications. The patient’s blood samples, HIV RNA levels, and CD4+ T cells were also tested. Two groups were formed, one receiving pillboxes and the others receiving electronic medication monitors. The patients were educated and had randomized pill checks, which made it harder for the patients to be noncompliant. Patients became more adherent to their medications because of the pillboxes and the education they received.
