Accomplishments Essay
Providing my Uncle with comfort and companionship at the end of his life is an accomplishment I consider my most significant because it taught me that living according to my values is not always easy but is always rewarding.

My Uncle and I had a special bond. He was the person that instilled in me the importance of loyalty to family. He raised me in Germany (Bayern Munich to be exact) until I was three years old and then reunited me with my parents in America. He returned to Germany, but quickly realized that he missed me too much. He gave up his life in Munich and came to America to be with me. Throughout my life, he was an indispensable mentor and taught me the meaning of devotion to family members.

In the spring of 2010, my Uncle’s health took a turn for the worse. I was established with my mom and dad in Maryland, but I was too far away to care for him. Just as my Uncle had uprooted his life to be with me, I decided that I would return that favor and fly him down from Arizona to Maryland to be with him. Though dealing with school, soccer and my Uncle’s health was difficult, I persevered and found a way to cope. I spent every moment of, my free time helping my Uncle. Every day, I was overwhelmed by the fear of losing him but grateful to have the opportunity to care for him.

My Uncle passed away in September 2010. Giving back to a man that had given me so much in my life made every sacrifice worthwhile, and the experience taught me the power that comes from living life according to my values.

My grandfather passed away and it sent my family and i into a turmoil. It was so sudden and fast we knew we had to prepare for our future without him. That day was the first day ever that my whole family and I sat in silence. No conversations, No cracking jokes or laughter, just silence. It was a day of sadness, but as the strong family we are, we lifted each other up and we accepted it and we made a promise to each other that we would never leave each other's sides. That day made me realize how much our family is united and this day put our strength to the test and we didn't let it break us. It actually brought us even…

The day of September 1, I missed class to be with my family in Memphis. My mom wanted everyone in our immediate family to gather together because my brother was leaving for the army. It was such an exciting week because I haven’t been home to see them in about year prior. My brother has recently graduated from high school and also turned 18. I am beyond proud of the person he has become, so to see him all grown up making the decision to leave home brought tears to my eyes.…

There are many types of goals. Growing up, I always dreamed of being two things: a mother and a nurse. I am blessed to have two wonderful children ages 14 and 16 and have had the privilege of being able to be a stay-at-home mom during their younger years. Now that they are older and a bit more independent, I have decided to go back to school and fulfill my goal of earning my degree in Nursing. Throughout the years of growing and maturing, I have learned how important it is to have good morals, values, goals, a passion for something, and a good education. I have not only taught my children the importance of these characteristics, but I have also shown them that regardless of one’s age or stage in life, that…

In my life, I have met certain people who have changed me for the better and have helped shape me into who I am today. A lot of those people have left but one that has always stood by my side and sticks out in my mind is my favorite person in the whole world, who happens to be my Papa. He has been there for me since day one, literally. He was the second person to hold me as in infant, after my mother. People like him don’t come around everyday. He is the most genuine person you will ever meet. A lot of people would speak this way about their relatives or friends but every person who my grandpa meets, leaves with a smile on their face.…

    Success Definition Essay

Most people measure success monetarily. We spend the majority of our lives working towards success (“Defining success”). The word “success” is defined in the Merriam Webster dictionary as the attainment of wealth, favor, or eminence. Individuals who would be considered successful in this generation are Kim Kardashian or even Justin Bieber. These celebrities simply live in the moment, without thinking about what their goals are. Everyone wants to be known for something. Success takes several different forms but because of societal issues we have lost sight of its true definition. To be successful is to have a purpose, to know where you're at, to know where you're going and to not be afraid to work for it.…

I believe in people who immigrate to America; they have the same dream-“American Dream.” The people who have the “American Dream” surely believe the U.S has meritocracy, which means they aware that there are plenty of opportunities to be successful in America if ones have good work ethic, put in their full effort to their careers, have an open-mind set, and willingly catch up with the newest technology, they can be successful. Unfortunately many people still stubbornly think success is mostly not due to merit, instead believe these elements such as luck, wealth, family background, or even races. Overall, I never see anyone who is lazy, laid-back and careless can be successful, but I do see people who work hard,…

My best friend Leah Nepomuceno is one of the strongest people I know, especially when it comes to family. Family to her is everything and she has done all she can to try and keep hers together as a whole. We were in sixth grade swinging on the swings outside at recess, whispering and giggling about our usual gossip when she received news from one of our teachers that we knew was serious by the look on her face and fear in her voice. She came up to us and told her she needed to go the office and that she was being dismissed, she gave me permission to walk with her inside. On the short but long felt walk inside Leah's heart was pounding, her hands were sweating, and her eyes were slowly filling with tears. Her mom was sitting in the big, blue, leather office chair with many of our elementary school teachers huddled around her sharing their sincere heart felt sympathy and much needed support. Leah's mom, Deb, had found out that day that her husband Ron, Leah's dad, was diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. The doctor had told Deb that is was going to slowly take away all of his muscles, eventually killing him and there was no cure for it. This news was heart wrenching for me to hear, since they were my second family, I grew up with them, Ron was my second dad. "It was like the last 11 years of memories with my dad flashed before my eyes and I didn't know what to do besides think of all the things we haven't done that we need to do before he dies," Leah replied when I asked her what her first thought was when she heard the news (Nepomuceno). Just talking to her now about it, 7 years later, is still just as heart breaking and you can hear the sadness in her voice.…

My most rewarding achievement was becoming a certified nursing assistant (CNA) this past month. My younger years were always spent in a nursing home or a group home for disabled adults. Both grandmothers were CNA’s at the time and was always working. They are both still currently there working, hard as ever, they are in their sixties and plan to retire soon. I remember how cool it was to follow grandma around while she works, it still is. I actually work with with my grandma, it can be somewhat annoying. She has been working there for thirty years now, so I grew helping.…
