Accountability
This essay will be about the importance of keeping the accountability of sensitive items. The US Army values soldiers that are accountable for their actions. The accountability of sensitive items affects the unit in many ways. AR 710-2 and AR 735-5 both cover the Army policy for property accountability. Some sensitive items are your weapon, military ID card, commo equipment, etc. Sensitive items are anything that can be used by opposing forces or the enemy to counter attack, weaken forces, and gain intel, and so on. People will sometimes get relaxed (complacent) or forgettable while not currently in a mission. If this happens it is very dangerous due to the fact that enemies are able to obtain any and possibly all of your sensitive items to gather information or harm you and your unit and possibly civilians for your negligence. This paper will explain the reasonings and methods behind, specifically, the guarding, securing, and monitoring of sensitive items of various types, as well as the consequences if such actions are not taken.
Your rifle is a sensitive item, because if it falls into the wrong hands it can be dangerous to you, your unit and civilians. Afghanistan nationals work among the camp which in any circumstance, there is a chance they will cause harm to me, me unit, and possibly anyone on the camp. Your rifle is used to protect your unit and yourself. Your rifle could also have military gear attached to it such as PEQ-15, ACOG, M68 or M203 which are incredible assets, when used in combat. Also, if you lose your rifle you and your unit will spend valuable time looking for it until it is found which may disrupt training time or classes. Losing your rifle or any other weapon can be hazardous to your unit and yourself whether in combat zones or in field training. A good way to keep accountability of your weapon would be to ALWAYS keep it in your eyesight.
