Accountability
This essay will be about the importance of keeping the accountability of sensitive items. The US Army values soldiers that are accountable for their actions. The accountability of sensitive items affects the unit in many ways. AR 710-2 and AR 735-5 both cover the Army policy for property accountability. Some sensitive items are your weapon, military ID card, commo equipment, etc. Sensitive items are anything that can be used by opposing forces or the enemy to counter attack, weaken forces, and gain intel, and so on. People will sometimes get relaxed (complacent) or forgettable while not currently in a mission. If this happens it is very dangerous due to the fact that enemies are able to obtain any and possibly all of your sensitive items to gather information or harm you and your unit and possibly civilians for your negligence. This paper will explain the reasonings and methods behind, specifically, the guarding, securing, and monitoring of sensitive items of various types, as well as the consequences if such actions are not taken.
Your rifle is a sensitive item, because if it falls into the wrong hands it can be dangerous to you, your unit and civilians. Afghanistan nationals work among the camp which in any circumstance, there is a chance they will cause harm to me, me unit, and possibly anyone on the camp. Your rifle is used to protect your unit and yourself. Your rifle could also have military gear attached to it such as PEQ-15, ACOG, M68 or M203 which are incredible assets, when used in combat. Also, if you lose your rifle you and your unit will spend valuable time looking for it until it is found which may disrupt training time or classes. Losing your rifle or any other weapon can be hazardous to your unit and yourself whether in combat zones or in field training. A good way to keep accountability of your weapon would be to ALWAYS keep it in your eyesight.
Another sensitive item is your military identification card. If lost or stolen, people are able to

When Soldiers prepare for a mission, we as leaders must be certain that everyone is ready and everything is in order. If a weapon isn’t working, if you don’t have enough water or food, the success of the mission, and safety of the platoon is threatened. As a leader, it is your job, and the NCOs, to ensure that Soldiers have all the necessary clothing and working equipment in order, and that the platoon can conduct the mission effectively. We as leaders do this through pre-combat checks and inspections. These inspections build unit cohesiveness and prevent carelessness, lax, and complacency behavior among Soldiers in the platoon. Within this paper I will explained the purpose of checks and inspections, types of inspection, conducting inspections, inspecting equipment to better show why the Army conducts these checks and inspections.…

Within the Army we see more and more these days of missions or deployments coming down at the last minute. If for some reason soldiers are not accounted for could delay the mission or deployment. So even if a soldier may not be physically present but still be accounted for to the point that if an emergency situation would happen the soldiers still need to be located or contact made with them in one way or another. In the modern world it makes even more important to have accountability. Due to the issue that soldiers aren’t and can’t be expected to remain on the installation at all times makes it even more important. There have been many incidents where a natural disaster has happened, major accidents have happened, and the growing cause of possible terror attacks. When issues like these should happen the chain of command needs to ensure that all their soldiers are accounted for to ensure that they have not been apart or hurt by the happening and also in case the unit may have to possibly mobilize to assist the in the local recovery after these events. If soldiers start going unaccounted for that could mean the soldier or the soldier’s family is going through some hard times and need…

There is a quote by Benjamin Franklin that reads, ‘time is money.’ In the armed services, a loss of time could mean a loss of life. When not in a combat environment, time spent looking for lost gear detracts from training. An improperly trained Marine in a combat situation could cost lives. Apart from a loss of training time, a Marine without the gear he was trained to use is not very useful. In the Rifleman’s Creed, there is a verse that states, ‘my rifle without me is useless; without my rifle, I am useless.’ This verse illustrates why it is important to know where one’s gear is at all times.…

Why is accountability important to the Army? Accountability is a very important part of an enlisted and a Non-commissioned Officer's (NCO) job. The enlisted soldier is responsible for all items issued to him or her such as a weapon, Night Vision Goggles (NVG’s), clothing, a vehicle, a field manual (FM), medication, or Basic Initial Issue (BII). The NCO's responsibility is to make sure that the soldier is accountable for such items and can retrieve those items when needed, so that he can report it to his higher command. Accountability also includes the most important piece of equipment the soldier him or herself. Anything that can go wrong will go wrong especially in combat, that is why the soldier should make sure the team leader or squad leader knows where his or her equipment is at all times. The Army spends a lot of money on equipment and other personal effects for soldiers, so the Army expects soldiers to know where their equipment is located. Layouts performed periodically throughout each year take accountability of property assigned to both units, companies and to each soldier. The hand receipts for these issued items goes to the highest officer to the lowest enlisted personal in the chain-of-command and back up again. An NCO may spontaneously ask a soldier to produce an Army issued item in order to test the soldier’s ability to locate that item in a timely manner. On the battlefield, every moment counts, and efficiency aids in the…

Accountability is normally viewed as being responsible, giving an explanation of your actions, to somebody for something. When you take 100 percent responsibility for holding yourself accountable, your performance will improve, your relationships will thrive, people’s respect for you will increase, you will be a great example for others to follow, and your self-esteem will grow. How is it that in all these areas of your life you can see such dramatic improvement? Because when you hold yourself accountable to doing the things you know you should do, you will distinguish yourself from the crowd. I am convinced if you want to advance your life personally or professionally, you must hold yourself accountable for your actions, responsibilities, and goals. Think about it. Why should it be someone else’s job to make sure you are doing the things that you know you should to be doing? When someone has to hold me accountable, because I failed to do what I should have done, I have a serious conversation with myself. My belief is that no one should have to hold me accountable for my actions, responsibilities and goals. While I appreciate others helping me get better, I am the one that must hold myself to a higher standard than my peers. Make no mistake about it. You cannot achieve any worthwhile personal or professional goal, if you don’t hold yourself accountable. The reason is simple. It’s your life! If you have to be held accountable at work, don’t expect to be promoted or to experience any type of significant career advancement. If you have to be held accountable at home by your parents, roommate or spouse, it will grow old fast and your relationships will deteriorate. Holding yourself accountable is nothing more than following through with YOUR commitments and responsibilities. It’s doing what YOU know YOU should do, when YOU should it. Whether you are 15 years old or 60 years old, let today be the day that you make the commitment to yourself that you will NEVER…

Accountability is an obligation or willingness to accept responsibility or to account for ones actions. Those that are unable to be accountable are the ones that jeopardize the combat readiness of any unit. It is the understanding that everyone is going to do and is willing to do the right thing even when no one else is looking. Everyone is assigned tasks and details not only including your own job that you are expected to do and do right but hold others accountable as well as a system of “check yourself, than check your buddy.” Doing the job correctly and ensuring others do it as well and do it safely are all part of accountability in the military as it can be dangerous given the types of equipment and tools we use. As an example any tools and or equipment left unsupervised can be lost and or stolen. As such in that event if the tools and or equipment was left out instead of signed out the wrong person becomes accountable. Everyone is accountable for their actions. You should always act responsibly as well, not just yourself but everyone. We spend thousands of dollars for each person to be trained and when ready, the expectation at your permanent party duty station is that you are going to be accountable for your actions and you as an individual operate and, that everyone around you is going to do the same. It is what is not only taught but it is what’s expected from everyone. Being accountable means being dependable, showing up to work and to appointments on time, meeting deadlines, being at the right place and at the right time and doing the right thing at the right time. It is also to see if everyone showed up to work or where they are supposed to be. Accountability is not only for keeping track of other people it can also be for keeping track of money, gear, legal documents, and many other things. The reason you would want to keep track of any of this is so if there is ever a time where a lot of equipment or other items goes missing you would be able to look…

The definition of sensitive items is anything that considered classified or a mission essential item. They range anywhere from protective wear, maps, patrol routes, nods (night vision goggles) or simply your weapon. The meaning of securing your sensitive items mainly is maintaining accountability for opsec (operation security), mission success and a soldiers overall readiness. If an item is lost and the enemy gets his/her hands on that item it could compromise the mission at hand or give them intelligence on the items we as soldiers use each day. Using habits and exercising the securing of sensitive items will make it possible for the soldier and his or her team to operate at the top performance. Operational security is process that denied valuable information to an enemy. If an enemy were to obtain the presented it could be used against our forces. Not securing sensitive items increases the risk of loss by being intercepted by unauthorized personnel. Every soldier must maintain accountability and positive control of all sensitive material to allow full use by them and anyone involved with the mission at hand while still maintaining operational security. Operational security can be compromised through the loss of sensitive items due to loss of equipment used for operational planning, or items used for support missions. Also depending on the type of sensitive item that is being classified it could fall under a different level of security as it is deemed so by the U.S. Government. The levels included in the term classified are restricted (public disclosure could have undesirable effects or do some harm), confidential (unauthorized disclosure could damage national security example would be compromising information that indicates the strength of armed forces or disclosure of technical information about weapons), secret (unauthorized disclosure could seriously damage national security) and top secret (unauthorized disclosure could…

Gear accountability is one of my most important things I must do as a United States marine. Many things go into keeping track of your own military gear as well as personal gear. Cif gear for example. All of the gear that is issued to me I must make sure I have everything at all times, otherwise if I lose a piece of gear I must fill out a missing gear statement, get it signed off by my section head, the platoon sergeant, and my platoon officer. I always have to make sure that all my gear is clean before any kind of field op. I have miss placed gear before in the past because I didn’t keep track of it. Every day a marine loses a piece of gear, whether it is from a field op, moving barracks rooms, or when I am getting ready to go on annual leave.…

In all industries accountability is important, however it is especially critical in health care, in which the livelihoods and lives of patients depends upon the correct actions of everyone that are involved. Mistakes can lead to inaccurate billing costs of thousands of dollars, or wrong treatments that lead to tragic injuries. Furthermore, as managed care becomes more complex, ensuring quality of care across an array of treatments, insurance companies, and providers becomes an increasingly demanding task, filled with risks of mistakes. Accountability needs to be measured, maintained and tracked among health care employees in a manner that they commit to, rather than be taken away from the organization’s working skill, and center their attention on positive improvements rather than blame.…

As a soldier of the world’s most powerful military force, the U.S Army, it is imperative that I demonstrate competence, efficiency, and professionalism at all times. To achieve this goal accountability is an absolute necessity. As a soldier I must maintain constant accountability of my equipment and my team. Without constant visual and/or physical security of my equipment I would be making it too easy for the enemy to take my equipment and use it against me and my fellow soldiers. Without accountability of my fellow soldiers I put them as well as myself in danger. If I don’t know where my team is it is impossible to come to their aid if needed and vice versa. That being said it is a key part in being a leader for that exact reason. You cannot be an effective leader without knowing or at the very least have some type of idea of the location of the ones you are leading and what they are doing at all times. Accountability in its self is a major part of not only being in the military, but many different aspects of life as well. The rules apply where ever you go. Parents must maintain accountability of their children, teachers must maintain accountability of their students, and supervisors must maintain accountability of their workers. No matter what you do in life you will have to keep accountability of someone or something, and someone will most likely be keeping accountability of you, there is no getting around it. Most crimes happen when people are lost and/or nobody knows where they are. If somebody at least knows the general area of where you are they can find you a lot quicker than if they were just searching where you might be. That in its self could be the difference between life and death. People lose their jobs over accountability every day. Whether it be losing a file, or not calling in sick, or just not calling to tell somebody that they are going to be late for whatever reason. A lack of focus and accountability loses…

Accountability in the army is important because soldiers as well as equipment, ammunition, food, water and other various supplies are vital to the operation and proper function of the army as a whole. To start with, soldiers must be accounted for because they are the responsibility of their team leader, squad leader, platoon sergeant, and so on. If you don't have accountability of soldiers then when you attempt to conduct a mission you may not have all the soldiers you should have and that could cost you not only failing your mission but your life and the lives of the soldiers with you. Having accountability of each and every soldier at all times lets the leadership know how many soldiers they can spare for various details and still continue with the mission at hand. Another thing that is very important to keep accountability on is equipment. If your soldiers don't have the equipment they need or the equipment they were issued then it could cause a major problem in the mission possibly causing you to fail the mission and lose lives of your soldiers for not having proper equipment. Not only is accountability of equipment highly important but making sure all the equipment works how it is designed and intended to be used. Accountability of ammunition is important as well, if you are on a mission and not all of your soldiers have ammunition then it could cost the mission and lives. Keeping accountability of your soldiers, your soldiers equipment status, and ammunition status are very important to completing a mission successfully without any problems. Also keeping track of soldiers equipment as well as ammunition can help save the army funds to put to better use to help soldiers with retirement, their benefits, various programs and classes. Another thing in the army to keep accountability on is food, it is the most important thing to accomplishing a mission successfully.
