Acetanilide Synthesis
Summary of Results: The objective of the experiment was to turn a sample compound from impure to pure. The impure substance that was given to the students was Acetanilide. The impure sample given weighed approximately 1.59 grams. After a series of hot and ice-cold filtrations, the pure (Acetanilide) compound weighed 0.70 grams. Approximately 44.02% of the sample was pure Acetanilide.
After recording the weight in the lab manual, the melting point range was tested. The melting point range for the pure sample of Acetanilide was found to be 116C-117.5C. The pure sample began to melt at 116C. The sample was fully melted at the temperature of 117.5C.
