II.Purpose: The purpose of this experiment is to standardize a sodium hydroxide solution and use the standard solution to titrate an unknown solid acid. The equivalent mass of the solid acid will be determined from the volume of sodium hydroxide added at the equivalence point. The equilibrium constant, Ks, of the solid acid will be calculated from the titration curve obtained by plotting the pH of the solution versus the volume of sodium hydroxide added.…

The purpose of this lab was in order to find which combination of two electrodes would produce the greatest voltage, under the condition that lemon juice was the electrolyte within a chemical cell. To conduct the lab, two slits were created in a lemon, which worked as a chemical cell, and an assortment of different electrodes were inserted into the lemon. Afterward, two wires were attached to each of the electrodes, where a voltmeter then gave a reading that was recorded into data.…

Plastic, it is a quintessential and vital aspect to today’s society. It has mouldered the modern world and transformed the overall quality of life. There is no human activity where plastics do not play a key role: from clothing to shelter, transportation to communication and entertainment to health care. Plastics have re-invented and malformed many everyday objects that are used in today’s society: from non-sick pans with Teflon and polyethylene for underwater cable coating. However, the plastic that has made the more significant impact on the 20th century is Polylactic Acid. Polylactic Acid, abbreviated to PLA, is a unique and different thermoplastic polymer than most others. This is because…

This experiment introduces us the pH measurement and application of macroscale titration of aqueous solutions of acids and bases. The first part of the experiment was applying macroscale titration to calculate the mass of an HCl solution consumed that was initially done by pounding the tablets and getting a weight of 0.15 grams. The powdered form antacid was mixed with 100mL of 0.1M HCl in the erlenmeyer flask. It was stirred and heated until it boiled then was filtered. Two drops of phenolphthalein was added to the filtered solution. It was titrated with 0.1M NaOH until its color turned pink. The procedure was repeated for the second trial.…
