Acid rain and Eutrophication are the two main pollution in Central Pennsylvania. Acid rain is a bad type of rain whiles eutrophication is the process where water bodies receive excess nutrients. Our mission here is to determine whether the Conodoguinet Creek is polluted or not. My hypothesis before the experiments was if there was to be signs of acid rain and eutrophication, then it means the Creek is polluted
We went to the creek to determine whether it is polluted or not. We carried out some experiments, such as macroinvertebrates counting and determining if the Creek has signs of acid rain or eutrophication. We first went into the Creek to find some rocks and determine what type of macroinvertebrates are under those rocks. Macroinvertebrates are organisms without backbone which are visible to the eye without the aid of a microscope. We have three group of macroinvertebrates. The first group of macroinvertebrates are found in pollution free water and the second group of …show more content…
We tested for the presence of acid and alkaline. We were divided into three groups and every group carried their own experiment. We were all given either phosphate, nitrate or alkalinity test kits to carry out the experiment. If mosts of the rocks neutralize acid then it means the creek is not polluted.Neutralize means reaction of an acid with a base to form salt and water. At the end of the day, the three groups all combined their results together and this is what we got.
The ones in GREEN means the calculation made is reliable. The ones in YELLOW means it is average. If there was to be RED it means the results are not reliable, but since there are no red and also since the green part is the part that appears the most it means the results are reliable. From the table above shows that there are no signs of acid rain or
