grew up into. They saw and experienced improper treatment from the Los Angeles police department. What made this song so widely popular was the fact that this was not just the reality in the cities of South Central and Compton but all over the United States. Aaron Morrison of IBT.com describes the song F*ck The Police as “The song that came to symbolize a culture in Los Angeles that saw predominantly black and Latino communities subjected to unwarranted searches, assaults and false allegations by police.” (Morrison). This song gave a voice to communities all over the United States, it gave a voice the African Americans and Latinos that before didn’t have one when it came to fighting for their rights against law enforcement. I grew up listening to N.W.A; I caught on to their lyrics at a young age, I knew all the lyrics to “Boyz in the Hood” before my tenth birthday.
And Ice Cube is one of my favorite lyricists; his album “The Predator” is iconic. N.W.A changed Rap forever they were the pioneers of gangster rap, their song “F*ck The Police” ushered in a new era, but most importantly it exposed the harsh realities of the gang ridden neighborhoods of Los Angeles and the improper treatment of the LAPD. Using their first amendment rights N.W.A gave a voice to men and women all over the United States who dealt with these struggles every day, some struggles that are still apparent
today.
