I remember my last conversation with my dear husband. It felt so strangely awkward. His plans of sailing to France confused me, and while he talked, I did not listen. I was only concentrating on him, staring into his dear face and wondering about if he still had any love left for me at all. I scarcely noticed the cold wind of the port as it cooled my spine. The flood of tears that gushed down my cheeks could not be restrained; the thought of saying goodbye was excruciating. Now it’s worse! I fear that knowing my husband is the Scarlet Pimpernel will alter our relationship once and for all. I only wish that I could say sorry, and hope with all my heart that I will set eyes on my brave, brave husband once more.…

I liked the movie Awakenings. It is one of those movies that feels good and makes you realize that you should live your life to the most everyday. Robert Deniro’s character Leonard has no boundaries besides the physical ailment that he has. Although he is examined for many years by doctors as a vegetable with no real feelings, he really is a bright and courageous man. Robin Williams plays Dr. Malcolm Sayer who thinks that Leonard and the other patients are able to think and comprehend. He says “What I believe is these people are alive inside.”…

In “Say You Love Me” Molly Peacock replays a particular incident from her childhood in her point of view with diction and simile to create imagery. She speaks about a time, when her father was intoxicated and when he abused her. The father violently asked her whether she loved him or not. Her younger sister was home, but she could not help because she feared his strength and demeanor. Although, the three family members were at home, a feeling of loneliness struck them all. Peacock tries to convey this frightening scenario to acknowledge that children and women are vulnerable to a man’s strength. Also, she reveals how the people who are being abused may feel in this type of situation. Her audience includes children and women who experience the same abusive relationship. Also, this poem is written for abusers. It forces them to recognize their own missteps and mistakes. People who know friends, family members, or coworkers that are in abusive relationships can relate as well. Her childhood incident teaches everyone else to understand the situation and to help prevent domestic violence.…
