In order to accomplish my set goals for my development program, I have formulated a certain action plan that will facilitate me in the future. Initially, I have decided to take part in several leadership workshops. These leadership workshops are conducted all over the world under the guidance and supervision of trained instructors and with the material that is specially designed to bring and instigate the leadership traits in a person. With the help of these workshops, I would expose to the opportunity to learn and acquire new skills and attribute that are required for being a good leader. Hence in that way I should be able to further my passion for leadership and learning because the workshop will provide me with the expertise to uncover and elucidate new situations and queries.…
The Trait Approach assumes that some people are natural leaders and examines motives, values, personality, and skills. The Behavior Approach branches into two sections. One method to the Behavior Approach is to look at leader behavior. What does the leader actually do? The other portion of the Behavior approach is to determine what actions are helpful and what actions are less helpful for leaders. The Power-Influence Approach looks at leadership from the perspective of power. This approach asks the questions like, “What type of power does the leader have in regards to the followers?” This approach looks at the amount and type of influence the leader has on the people around him or her. The situational approach looks at the situation leader must deal with. This approach examines the mission of the unit, the type of organization the leader is a part of, and the nature of the work environment. The Integrative Approach involves multiple types of approaches. Participative Approach involves both the behavior and the power-influence approach. Participate leadership involves the group in decision-making and creates a sense of project ownership by the group. Members who feel empowered are more committed to mission accomplishment. For these reasons, the Participative Approach is the desired…
The “Right to Lead Model” is important because it provides the ability to evaluate my leadership ability to improve my weak areas. The process starts with identifying my authorities, by defining my assigned positions and social roles. Next, it reflects on obligations and requirements such as deadlines, meetings, operating instructions or industrial standards that I have to follow. Then I must reflect on my competence, character and personality through self-evaluation and by seeking feedback. Finally, I consider my relevance by determining how my actions impact my environment. With all this information I can find the trust that my followers have in me. Completing the “Right to Lead Model”, I uncovered weaknesses…
The term “leadership” comes with multiple definitions and interpretations. Leadership in the 21st century is changing and causing old measures of performance to become outdated (Clawson, 2006). However, Leadership Theories and Practice (LDR) enlighten students to understand the theories, applications, and importance of leadership. Throughout the LDR course and assessments, I will further discuss my learning in a reflective leadership plan. The reflective leadership plan will include the following factors about the author: leadership style, leadership strengths and weaknesses, leadership gaps, and how to fill those gaps. In addition, the paper will provide my timeline, implementation method, and assessment.…

Northouse (2013) explained that situational leadership model is one that consists of a directive and a supportive dimension of influence. In essence, a situational leader is one who attempts to match one’s leadership style to what is described as the competence and commitment of an employee (Northouse, 2013). For example, if Ann decides to use the second style (s2) referred to as the coaching approach. Then, Ann would be demonstrating high directive behavior as well as high supporting behavior (Northouse, 2013). Northouse (2013) also stated that, in this approach, an organizational leader communicates on both goal accomplishment and meeting an employee’s socioemotional need.…

The Asian American Drug Abuse Program follows the s2/m2 level of Situational Leadership theory developed by Paul Hersey and Ken Blanchard. This model works best for AADAP because the services they provide for people are mostly therapeutic in nature. AADAP offers many programs like residential services and employment access which are aimed at potential clients who are motivated but lack the skills to change without some form of treatment and rehabilitation. With regarding the Managerial Grid format put forward by Robert Blake and Jane Mouton, AADAP is highly focused concerning both the people whom they help and the production they create. Based on the therapy provided and job training opportunities offered AADAP can be considered at the highest…
In order for a church to carry out its mission it needs effective leader/leadership. But what is leader/leadership? In spite all that has been said about leadership there is no universally accepted definition of a leader/leadership. Perhaps the next best definition of Christian leader is taken from The Making of a Leader by Bobby Clinton: “a person with God-given capacity and God-given responsibility who influences a group of followers toward God’s purposes for the group.”(p.127). In my own words this is someone who follows the example of Christ and does so in a way that influences others.…

For our second Leadership in Action project, we decided to volunteer four hours of our time at the Allegany County Animal Shelter. For many years, the shelter served as the final destination for 85% of the animals that have entered it (1). However, in 2010, a group of citizens wanted to change the nature of the shelter and had a goal of doing as much as possible for every animal, every day (1). This goal was the first step on the journey of the shelter becoming A Shelter of Hope. With this new philosophy, the shelter is transitioning into an expanded role as a community service organization. Their expanding programs and services are designed to address the needs of animals and to provide support, education and assistance for all of the people that care about them (1). As three animal loving students, we decided that for our final project we wanted to spend time with man’s best friend and help in what the shelter strives for: to give them a sense of hope that they are not forgotten about and are still loved.…
