Important Person-Irvin McDowell graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1838, and taught tactics at the academy from until 1845 to many of the generals he would eventually face on the battlefield. He served as an aide-de-camp to General Wool during the Mexican-American War, and received a promotion to Captain for his service at the Battle of Buena Vista. when the Civil War started on May 14 Irvin McDowell was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General because of connections to the Secretary of the Treasury, Salmon Chase. Although he had never before commanded troops in combat, McDowell attacked Confederate forces at the First Battle of Manassas where he was consequently defeated. After the defeat, General McClellan was Promoted…
Based on Josephs actions the state senators were the affected parties in this case study. As Joseph was found guilty the state senators at that time felt relieved that a person with his unethical practices would no longer have the power entrusted in him. The manner in which DiCarlo extorted money for the construction of the University of Massachusetts in Boston, and tried to sabotage a legislative report was all for personal gain. Joseph was voted in to seat by the public and entrusted to make ethical actions that would be in the best interest of the organization and the public. This case study, shows how greed and selfishness played a major role in the choices DiCarlo made, he however did not for see the investigation that led to his conviction. This conviction put an end to his career and was expelled as a senate in 1977.…
Sandusky was the assistant coach for 32 years serving as its defensive coordinator. He was a very highly touted defensive coordinator many schools contacted him to become their football coach, which he declined. One of the reasons for staying at the school was his work with Second Mile, a charity he founded for at-risk kids in 1977. The organization offered support and services for children. He took kids with him to Penn State games both home and away. Everything was going well for Sandusky in people’s eyes until the 1990’s. In 1998 authorities became suspicious of him regarding contact with minors inappropriately. The case was done by the state college after a boy told his mother that he showered with the football coach. The report by a special investigative group headed by former FBI director Louis Freeh had been commissioned by the Penn State Board of Trustees.…
Aaron’s main purpose and key point of his book is to be a voice for the voiceless and encourage those too afraid to speak out to take a bold step and speak up. We see that in the Epilogue where Aaron states “There can be no shame or embarrassment in speaking up” (p. 208). He wanted people to know that he is no longer a victim but a victor. He wrote of his hopes to gain a college degree, become a state trooper and go around the country as a spokesperson on the intervention and prevention of abuse. He wanted to share his story more personally than just being Victim #1 and to explain how it affected his life in all aspects. He gives examples of broken relationships, panic attacks, contemplating suicide and the inability to trust. Aaron wanted to show that there are faults in our criminal justice systems but that shouldn’t hinder victims from coming forward. It did take roughly three years after the report for Sandusky to be convicted! Another key point is that there are people who will stick by victims, believe them and provide support. This example would be Aaron’s mother and Mike. Another point inferred is that girls aren’t the only victims of sexual child abuse. To which the reader can obviously see that Sandusky, from what information is given, only targeted young boys. The final point would be that abuse shouldn’t define who a victim is and that victims can overcome their abuse like Aaron has been able to…
Obviously, the actions of one, or few can affect the masses. Consequently, Sandusky’s criminal and deplorable behavior not only affected his direct victims but permeating out directly negatively affecting the university and his immediate co-workers and supervisors. Unfortunately, his actions tainted what was one of the best college football programs in the nation and the reputation of an ivy league college. Not to take away from the immediate victims in the slightest, but some associates that should have been aware of…
This case study will analyze how according to former FBI director Louis Freeh’s report the most “powerful men at Penn State failed to take any steps for 14 years to protect the children Sandusky victimized” and “never demonstrated, through actions or words, any concern for the safety and well-being of Sandusky’s victims” until after he was arrested. Specifically, I will focus on possible motivations that led to the leadership’s inactions; how the organizational culture of Penn State’s football program impacted leadership’s poor decision making prior to and during this scandal, and the abuse of power in order to preserve success and safeguard the university’s illustrious reputation. Finally, I will present plausible solutions, as a “way ahead” to ensure this type of situation does not happen in the future and promote a renewed positive culture change.…
List two main points discussed in “The Education of Frank McCourt.” What was the piece about? What should a reader take from the article?…
The Man, the myth, the legend: Mike Matheny. Mike Matheny is a man who marks his word and will always be remembered far past his time. I did my novel review on New York Times Bestseller: The Matheny Manifesto, which is an autobiography that tells a young manager’s old-school views on success in sports and life. If you enjoy baseball and learning about people’s childhood experience and what brought them up to where they are today, then this book is for you. Mike Matheny is a hardworking, determined, and faithful man who makes the right choices no matter how hard it is. Although baseball is not my favorite sport, I still enjoyed this book. Matheny is someone that everyone has something to learn from him; whether it be by showing respect, being classy, or being open with views whether it be religious or importances.…
Focusing on the actions, not the abuse, select one person involved in this case(Assistant Coach/Athletic Director/State Attorney General/School President, etc.) and discuss the following:…
3. Should this incident be limited to the class, or should the principal and parents be notified? I believe this incident should encourage a school wide learning situation, in which attention is brought to all students about the seriousness of sexual harassment. I also believe the principle should play apart in this event, as well as the parents. Not only the parents of those students involved in the incident, but all parents.…
Some ethical theories are of more help than others when making decisions about sexual issues. Discuss.…
When Billy McFarland founded Magnises, he envisioned millennial members in major cities using their distinctive black Magnises card to buy discounted tickets for social events sponsored by brands that were eager to reach his 21 to 30 year-old members. For an annual fee that excluded people who were unemployed, but was easily within reach for those just starting their career, McFarland imagined that young professionals would be eager to network with people in other industries and make contacts that would serve them throughout their career.…
The grand jury had identified eight young boys that had experienced sexual advances or sexual favors by Sandusky from 1994-2009. There were at least 20 incidents that occurred while Sandusky was employed at Penn State. According to one of the indictments, Mike McQueary, who at the time was a Penn State grad student reported to Joe Paterno that he had seen Jerry Sandusky having intercourse with a ten year old boy. Joe Paterno then failed to report this incident to authorities. Joe Paterno, along with many of the Penn State University officials had tried to cover Jerry Sandusky’s acts which…
The issues involving the Virginia plan gave too much power to the national government have been a popular topic amongst scholars for many years. The Virginia plan was a proposal by Virginia delegates for a bicameral legislative branch. The plan was drafted by James Madison while he waited for a quorum to assemble at the Constitutional Convention of 1787. There are many factors which influenced the development of the Virginia plan that gave too much power to the national government. The Virginia plan gave too much power to the national government by all the plans James Madison formed to create a new form of government plan which are the Executive Branch, Judicial Branch, and Legislative Branch. I plan to examine each of these factors in detail and asses their importance.…
My audience for this proposal will be the administration of Colorado State University and most importantly, the president. One of the things that I noticed while I began school here is the very precise and informational programs that CSU has about sexual assault. In many cases this is a good thing, but after doing some reading I feel unsure as to why the school feels the need to teach such things. Why is sexual assault such a big deal to college campuses now? Is it because there are students who are suddenly bringing it to the surface and really showing what the college administration is all about or is it because the government is only forcing them to do so? To tackle these questions and help come up with a solution to this problem, I used only three sources: “Colleges Are Breaking the Law on Sex Crimes,” by Eliza Gray and “Meet the College Women Who Are Starting a Revolution Against Campus Sexual Assault,” By Vanessa Grigoriadis and “A Lack of Consequences for Sexual Assault,” by Kristen Lombardi. These are all about the fight for punishment on sexual assault on college campuses throughout the country and how to keep the same things from happening.…
