Actions Speak Louder Than Words It was October 25, 2001 at about 10:00 at night. I was at the hospital, about 4 and a half years old with my father and older brother. I remember being filled with excitement when we were finally allowed to see my mother after 8 long grueling hours. We stepped into the hospital room and saw first sight of the new little one that was now a part of our complete family. He was so chubby and peaceful looking, and had soft, shiny red hair with deep blue eyes. I was instantly in love with that little boy. That day had marked the beginning of our long and still continuing journey as brother and sister. I could not wait to see and take part in the person he would become right before my eyes. My little brother is very kindhearted, loyal to a fault, and his genuine personality has helped to setup the tight bond that we have today. The kindheartedness in my little brother is one of his stand out qualities, everyone notices it and it is one of the many things I admire about him. One day during spring break my little brother was over at his best friend, Connor's house, and they were going to go roller-skating, I remember Colin being so excited to go and hang out with his best friend. A couple hours after we had dropped Colin off, our house phone began to ring. My mom answered and I could instantly sense the nervous energy in her voice and that something was terribly wrong. After she hung up she hurried into the living room and I dreaded the next words that came out of her mouth, "Hurry up and get ready, Colin's been in a bad wreck." The worst thoughts began to swim through my mind of what the situation had to entail. As we ran into the car, I started asking my mom questions about all that she knew that had happened. She didn't know how bad everyone was hurt, she just knew that someone had to be airlifted and that meant bad head trauma caused by a severe wreck. It just made everything so much worse and I could not stop thinking the impossible thoughts that entered my mind. We kept calling the hospital to see if we could try and talk to Colin because he had no one there. He was all alone, scared as scared could be, and hurt however bad he was hurt. That feeling of knowing that someone I love, and was so close and dear to me, was in intense pain all by himself with no familiar face to help him through it, was the worst feeling in the world. I remember my mom started to cry because she felt for my little brother, and that's when it hit me hard. My mother is a nurse and works at Conroe Regional, where my little brother was at, so she called one of her nurse friends to go down to the E.R. to just hold his hand and be there for him while we were on our way. As soon as we stepped in to the room, we saw he had blood all in his head and scrapes and bruises everywhere. He was crying and had the most miserable pitiful look in his face as the nurses and doctors were cleaning his wounds and giving him all kinds of shots to fix him up. Every time he cried, I was right beside him crying too. I remember feeling scared for him and just wishing I could take his place somehow so he didn't have to suffer through the obvious pain. But even after seeing all the pain and shock he was in, the first thing he asked us as we walked in was, "Is everyone else okay? Where are they? Are they going to be alright?" That was the first thoughts on his mind, his kindheartedness had gleamed through and been admired by everyone in the room. He had head lacerations and scrapes and bruises, Connor had a concussion and head trauma, Connor's mom and little sister got through the wreck with barely a scratch. The car was totaled and it was a wonder no one died, the person that hit them, hit and run, they just left them there. The wreck made me realize how precious life really is and how something you love so dearly can be so easily taken away from you. Colin is the most loyal person I have ever met. Loyalty may just be a seven letter word but the actions he does proving the meaning of that word is of far greater means. If anyone starts talking bad about someone he loves he will just leave the room because he refuses to say anything about it, much less hear it. He is so loyal that even when someone is doing him wrong he still sticks by their side and just lets it happen. I guess you could say he outright lets people take advantage of him and manipulate him, because he wants them to be happy and because he loves them dearly and refuses to see the bad in them. After the wreck, Connor was not able to go to school for a couple weeks because of his head trauma, and he was behind on his work. Colin insisted on visiting Connor at least 4 or 5 days out of a week to check on his best friend and to make sure he was doing alright, and to bring him his school work. He would help him with absolutely anything Connor asked, whether it being school work, or helping fix some of his favorite meals or snacks. I really do admire his loyalty, it shows the true kind of person he really is and that is not a quality I see in most people. Colin's personality is one of the most genuine I know. He is so sweet and nice and tries to do right by everyone. My little brother has helped me grow as a person just as much as I have helped him. He may be trying to copy my every move and look up to me as my parents say he does, but I look up to him too. The kind of person that he has become is one of the most pure and genuine I have ever met. This may all sound biased because I adore my little brother, but he is truly a great person on the inside and it shows through to everyone. I'm not saying he's perfect, but he sure is special and I couldn't ever appreciate that little rascal enough. I’m so glad to have a little brother like him in my life, he has made my life better with the close connection we have. His qualities are true-hearted and are seen by the actions he carries out. Actions speak louder than words, and this is surely the case with him.

It was a chilly day on March 6, 2007. Me and my family were on 495 going to the Holy Cross Hospital with a slight delay of traffic. My big sister, Maisie, was on my shoulder and we shifted her head fell on my lap. She woke up and asked where we were. “We are almost there Maisie” my Dad said. We stopped at the traffic light and I fiddled with my fingers some more. “Stop fiddling with your fingers!” Maisie whispered to me. My cousin was only 19 when he got diagnosed with Stomach Cancer. I was only in my second year of high school, but things did not got as bad until my junior year. During that time, all he had was me. Both of his parents worked all the time to be able to pay all the medical bills and surgeries he has had done. I have missed various days in school and have been tardy lots of days because I was always in the hospital or at home with him. Nothing is worse in life than seeing a loved one slowly beginning to die and there is nothing you can do about it, but be there with them every step of the way. Throughout his whole sickness, I used to pray all the time and have so much faith that he will get better, yet he never did. Everyone in my surroundings doubted him and I was his only supporter. My cousin was more than a cousin to me; he was practically a brother to me. One day, I fed him after him throwing up his food for weeks, and he didn’t throw up. He did so well, and he thanked me all the time. That day gave me so much hope that he will get better, but the next day, I was on my way to visit him and as soon as I got there, I see his father outside. Enthusiastically, I asked how was his son doing and he looked at me and told me that he passed away 10 minutes ago. He passed away on January 20th, 2015. No person should be allowed to verbally harass another. It is wrong to bully someone and say they did it because of their strong moral or religious belief. If they have something to tell another person it should be something their doing wrong, like if they stole something, and not because of how the person is (sexual orientation, religion, etc.). Michigan should not of have passed this bill because verbal abuse is worse than physical abuse. The state is practically giving students permission to talk bad to their classmates just because they don’t like them, but they can get away with it because of this. Michigan needs new anti-bullying bills that would actually work in suppressing or better yet eliminating any sort of bullying.…
