After completing the assignment Essay 2.1 in Study and critical thinking skills in college, I re-thought the way that I study. Once I completed the assignment I approach class a lot differently than previously. I sort through important information and ask myself a question where he or she going with this is? I also try to make a connection with reading assignment and class lectures. Now, before class I read the next chapter in advance so that I may obtain a better understanding of what the instructor is trying to convey. And I try to see how each lecture relates to one another. Once I leave class I think about what I have learned and apply what I have learned in my other classes. I realize that this class is forming

Focusing in self- evaluation to improve the learning process, help me to set goals and be aware of my own mistakes. When the English Composition course started, I wanted to be able to express my thoughts and my ideas in an effective way. The process of writing for non-native speakers of English is kind of difficult. For me, the American style of writing is very narrow, and my style is completely different. I found myself having trouble sticking to a thesis, because I had so many ideas that I did not know how to organize, and that was the primary purpose of taking this course, to learn to make my writings more organized.…

I learned two major things about my writing skills during this class. First, when presenting an essay for peer review, make sure that it is not a very rough draft. Second, the types of essay styles can change easily when writing. Even though my paper is supposed to be expository, using certain words and tone can create a totally different essay style.…

While I have learned a variety of processes and steps in this critical thinking course, the 3 most significant things that come to mind are commitment, forward thinking, and overcoming obstacles. Critical thinking requires a life time commitment if I expect my thinking to improve. I learned to be mindful of how my past affected my thinking and I learned what processes to put in place to take my thinking to a higher level. Critical thinking leaves no room for emotions and other bad habits that hinder thinking. The emotions that once drove my thinking have been replaced with a drive to move past emotion and consider what lies beyond. Critical thinking is an important source in overcoming obstacles that might hinder good and reasonable conclusions or solutions to problems and issues.…

In high school, I always considered myself a good student. I payed attention in class, took notes, and genuinely took interest in my education. As a college student, I have tried to do the same thing. Of course, college is not quite the same as high school, and I have not always gotten the near-perfect results I used to expect. While I am working on my perfectionism as a separate issue, I am glad to take this opportunity to learn more about how to succeed in college. Three strategies I learned in this chapter include how to better prepare before class, how to review after class, and how to improve my note-taking strategies.…

This class has taught me many things about myself along with many necessary skills needed while writing. I know now that, through hard work and determination, I can achieve what I might think to be impossible. While reflecting back on my initial writing abilities, I see the weak, uneducated style of writing. Each essay shows my progression and improvement, and, after a while, the class began to become much easier. Today, after practicing throughout my essays this semester, I believe that I, in fact, have…

Another key to succeeding in college classes is to always take notes. The human brain can not remember everything a professor teaches about all in one class. Anyone can take notes during classes but sometimes students end up writing down something they do not need to know. A way to figure out how to right down the correct notes is to listen to the professor for things that stick out the most. Listening to the professor helps in many ways.…

    Retrospective Essay

One of the course goals is to explore and analyze ideas in order to write with a strong sense of ownership. I think that there is a difference between writing a paper and slapping your name on it and constructing a piece you can be proud of and want to put your name on it, so everyone knows that this was your work. With my first paper, I feel as if just completed the assignment and slapped my name at the top. I didn’t dive into the topic and really think about how this topic pertains to me. With the second paper, I sat down and reviewed my double sided entries, reread some of my highlighted points in Alone Together, and tried to really think about how the topic, technology, effected me and what my views were on it. I explored different routes I could take my paper. Analyzed what it would read like if I said I agreed with Turkle verses if I said Turkle’s ideas were silly and shouldn’t be taken seriously. I had to decide what my stance was and own it. I had to own up to my ideas and opinions in order to write the assignment. I think that was an improvement from the start of the course. I was confident when I turned in the second major writing assignment. I felt accomplished as a writer for turning in a complete piece opposed to just accomplishing an…
