ABSTRACT
Antibacterial activity of medicnal plants has turned out to be a global concern. Medicnal plants are very useful in treating various diseases. Antibiotics are an important class of pharmacological agents used for treating antibacterial infections. Although antibiotics were first isolated from fungi and bacteria but over the years more and more synthetic antibiotics has been synthesized, which are in great demand. This present study has been done to determine the antibacterial activity of Cannabis sativa leaf extract to some selective pathogenic bacterial strains such as Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Cannabis is known by many names world wide. Cannabis is also known by name Marjuna in America, Bhang, ganja and charas in India. Cannabis grows well at low temperature. The seeds of cannabis are used to make hempseeds , which are used for cooking, lamps. The flower of Cannabis contain psychoactive chemical compound cannaboids. The leaves of cannabis are good astringent tonic, aphrodisiac, alternative intoxicating, stomach analgesic and also abortion causing drug .Cannabis is also used in spasm, fever, insomnia. Cannabis sativa is used for the treatment of specific ailments of human like allergies,cuts,wounds, scabies, small pox, sexually transmitted disease, leprosy,inflammation {B.Dilara etal}. In Europe and America Cannabis sativa was the drug of choice in preventing migrane attacks. Various neuralgias, epilepsy, asthma,postpartum psychoses are also treated with cannabis{R. Mechoulam etal 2005}.It was reported by Kabrlik etal that the extract of cannabis was used for the anus related disease and was also applied to sore toe nails. Canabis is a safe alternative for the treatment of a wide range of disease in womens like dysuria, hypermesis gravidarum {E.Russo et al .,2002}.The antimicrobial activity from ethanol and petroleum ether extract against various microorganisms has been reported{K Wasim et al .,1995}. Cannabis was also been reported to have pharmacological and antimicrobial effects {O.Polunin et al., 1969}. The Cannabis sativa found in neighbouring country Pakistan is having antimicrobial activity against all the bacterial strains and fungi {K Wasim et al.,1995}. According to World Health Organization (WHO) 80 percent of the population of Asian and African countries are presently using herbal medicine for some aspects of primary health
