Acts of Kindness
Acts of kindness

On March 19, 1994, I experienced firsthand how one random act of kindness could touch my heart, ease my fears and leave me with a renewed faith in mankind.
I was living in Billings, Montana and was moving back home to Kennewick, Washington with my six month old daughter. It was a 670 mile journey. I drove a little blue Ford Festiva and had it packed to the point where I didn’t think anything else could fit in it. It was a beautiful sunny morning when we left on our journey.
I was feeling pretty good by the time we reached Bozeman, Montana, about 150 miles into our trip. The radio was playing perfect sing along music, the sun was still shining, and my baby girl was fast asleep. We weren’t long outside Bozeman when the weather drastically changed. It was snowing so hard that I could barely see the road ahead of me. I turned the radio down so I could concentrate on the road. When I looked up I saw the most horrific car accident I had ever seen. A semi truck was turned sideways on the highway and a car had slid underneath it, completely ripping the top off the car. I could only assume that the passengers of the car were dead. There were police lights flashing all around, but it was exceptionally quiet. I pulled the car over to catch my breath. After taking a few moments to collect myself, I continued on my way.
The storm didn’t seem to want to let up. I was determined more than ever after seeing the accident to just keep going and get out of the storm. I was almost to Butte, Montana when my gas light came on informing me that I needed more gas. I never saw a sign for a gas station. I don’t know if a sign wasn’t visible due to the snow storm or if I was just too focused on the road ahead of me. It seemed like I had been driving on empty for an hour or so when I finally saw an exit. I turned my blinker on and started up the off ramp. The car started to sputter and then just died. I had never been so scared in my

Out of nowhere the Tahoe swerved quickly to the right. In the middle of the highway was a gleaming white dishwater. Everything went into slow motion, we swerved to the right and slammed into the back of the Tahoe. The airbags deployed with a loud bang, my head slammed into the window, and my sister was crying. Our car was totaled,…

It was all in the southbound lane and we were in the northbound lane, but we just parked there because there’s just people everywhere; they’re just screaming, crying, whatever. I jumped the Jersey barrier and this guy is just FUBAR-ed. He’s still alive; it would have been better if he was just dead, but he died in the back of the ambulance. What we think happened, or appeared to have happened, was that he wrecked his truck and as it was rolling down the interstate; he got ejected. His truck was sitting sideways south of the accident and the weird thing is that some of the bystanders said that right after that happened, he stood up, and then, he got hit 2 or 3 times by other vehicles. He was, for as bad as he was messed up, still moving his eyes, still breathing, and still had a pulse. We boarded him quick, threw him in the back of the ambulance. The medic met up with us. We didn’t leave right away because we had that feeling that he wasn’t gonna make it. It was pretty much a give-me that he wasn’t gonna live. They put him a monitor on him, his pulse was like 20, then went to 16, then like 14, then like 12, and his breathing was getting shallow, and the biggest thing is the color of his skin. It went from red like road- burn to purple and then, it just went white when his pulse hit zero, and then, he died; there was no way to save him. He had a hole the size of a soft ball missing out of the side of his head like right here beside his right eye.…

The four passengers were on their way home early Thursday morning after attending a high school party. Luis Delcid-Cardona, aged 19, was the intoxicated driver, Jonathon Rivas, aged 19, was in the front passenger seat and two recently graduated high school students, Samantha Belliveau, aged 20, and Nicole Rodriguez, aged 18, were sitting in the back seats when tragedy struck. Early morning around 1:09am, the intoxicated driver, Luis, struggled to maintain directional control and slammed into a tractor-trailer. The driver fled the situation on foot leaving his three best mates there at the scene. The two female backseat passengers one of whom was completely outside of the car when police arrived and the other, who was partially ejected from the vehicle, were pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. The front passenger was in critical condition and was immediately taken to Capital Health Regional…

I was tired and my face was numb; I forgot my face mask at my uncle’s house. I wasn’t in any rush to get home but the wood stove and my comfortable bed was a pleasing thought. The headlight on my snowmobile was only shining about ten feet in the distance when a giant moose stepped out in front of me. I immediately pulled my breaks, but it was too late to avoid contact. I was looking up at the towering moose; ready to fly forward all I could think about is how to survive this situation. My body became calm and everything went quiet. Then all of a sudden the big hooves came crashing down just…

I had a neck brace around my neck and IV’s stuck all in my arms. I started to panic, I was lost, confused and scared. My best friend was there in the ambulance trying to calm me down. But still, all I could think about was the reaction of my parents when they found out what happened. Once we got to the hospital, the paramedics took me to Emergency Care. The doctors ran many tests on me: MRI’s, CAT Scans, and X-Rays, whatever test you can name – they ran on me. As I waited for my results, the doctors came in and explained to me what happened. An intoxicated driver with a gun ran the red light and hit me in a head on collision. The driver not only totaled my mother’s car but also totaled his own car too. The good thing was that he was okay. I didn’t know what to be happier about; the fact that the other driver was fine or that the accident was not my fault. Selfish right? But I’m sure if you were me at the time, you would think the same thing.…

Aesop, an ancient Greek storyteller, once said, ”No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.” Small acts of kindness can have huge impacts on others. First, small acts of kindness might cause the domino effect. Second, acts of kindness can make people’s day. Finally, doing small acts of kindness makes you a good role model for younger people. As a result, a small act of kindness can make a positive impact on another person’s life.…

We were finally ready to leave and began walking to the car, which during the walk I remembered I needed to stop and get gas. So we headed to the gas station, filled up CoCo, which was my first vehicle, and were off to the dinner. In order to get to the dinner we had to get on the I-10 to I-110. We started off at great start on the highway. Crazily, only ten minutes into the ride we faced complications. While driving in the middle lane on I-10, an eighteen wheeler truck felt the need that it had to get over from the left lane into the middle. With the position I was in I could neither get over to my right nor to my left due to other vehicles being there. There was also a vehicle behind me. The truck began veering over to the right into my lane. I began to honk my horn and slow down as much as possible without causing the car behind me to hit me. I assumed the truck would realize by my honking of the horn it just was not the best time for him to come over into the lane I was in. Unfortunately he did not, and by the time the vehicle behind had gotten over for me to slow down even more the back of the truck hit the front of my car. The truck was lower than usual and the back hit the hood of my car sending my car spinning three times thereafter smacking into the barrier on the bridge. Initially, I was frozen in my seat thinking how fast it escalated but how slow it felt as far as spinning and hitting the…

As far as my personal thinking is concerned, I consider that kind behavior is among the most significant feature a human may possess. It is not that difficult to state a straightforward 'thank you', and even it can genuinely alter the prospect of somebody else's day. My brother once said to me, “It acquires more power to glare than to smile.” I've acknowledged that only by behaving respectfully with the citizens around, you are able to genuinely create the more positive ambiance around you.…

It was November 30, 2015and I had been driving down Jefferson road, like I always do, when the front passengers side tie rod broke. It threw me into a field and flipped my car of a total of 3 times. I could hear the glass break and I felt the car go upside down, once, twice, three times in a row. I remember closing my eyes and getting as low as possible.…

During our last class session, while I was watching the video on random acts of kindness, it reminded me that performing random acts of kindness, is something that I need to incorporate more into my life on a regular basis. I actually had a warm and fuzzy feeling inside knowing that many people have done so many kind things to me. I too have done many kind things to others; but, I had still not decided to incorporate this small thing into my life. I immediately realized that life is about being a blessing to others; however, there are times when people need to see tangible things done for them. When we give things that are tangible, it is one way to help others see Christ in us. I found out that there are many ways to show random acts of kindness. I had the opportunity to put this concept into action in several ways since our last class.…
