After reading the first part of Respect for Acting by Uta Hagan I have a newfound respect for actors and all that they go through to obtain the true character in which they are playing. As someone who has never neither acted nor read anything about performing, this has opened my eyes to all of the work that these actors go through on a daily basis for the sheer enjoyment of their audience. In Seamus Heaney’s translation of the epic poem, Beowulf, the reader is thrust into the Scandinavian culture of seventh century A.D. Through the old English poem, historical evidence is gathered about the Scandinavian culture, which is relatively unknown to scholars due to lack of literature within the Anglo-Saxon culture from this era. Beowulf is unique because it is one of so few puzzle pieces to this time period, which makes it a very important piece of work among historians worldwide. When broken down into its three parts, Beowulf reveals issues within the culture of the Danish peoples, which are solved by the protagonist, Beowulf. Beowulf, in essence, serves as the “balance,” who has the ability to eliminate impediments in a culture’s growth. The cultural observances made especially in the second division, or agon, of Beowulf prove to be extremely problematic among the Danes, presenting an endless cycle of revenge and murder that cannot cease.…

The final step used in creative problem solving is refining solutions. According to Vincent R. Ruggiero, the three steps to follow are to work out details by determining exactly how solutions will be applied. The next step is to examine each detail for imperfections, and the last step is to make any improvements that will eliminate the imperfections. When the thinker reaches a solution to a problem, and has worked through the deficiencies, the creative thinker must work through any issues to find how the solution affects others.…

Iago and Krogstad, while both being antagonists within their respective plays Othello and A Doll’s House, do not share many traits, nor resort to the same actions, or have the same ambitions. In fact, both can be considered to be total opposites with respect to characterization. This reflects the great change that literary conventions have undergone from the time of Shakespeare to Ibsen.…

The floundering Jorgen Tesman is an insecure wreck, enforced by his apologetic phrase “Eh?” Ibsen firmly depicts Tesman’s desperation by arranging the character’s language in a consistent fearful tone revealing His constant bombardment of the passage with frantic queries about his perceived competition, Ejlert Lovborg, also permeates a sense of fear; already having idolized Hedda as the “loveliest thing of all” even before her entrance into the play. The author creates a strong image of the mundane man, illuminated by Tesman’s obvious inferiority and pathetic idolization of those above him, supporting Ibsen’s stance that the traditional values of society undermine human existence. Tesman’s language is arranged to provoke the reader to question his relationship with Hedda as he obsessively paints her in an angelic light, supported in the stage…
