Living organisms have special features which help it cope with its habitat in order to survive successfully, even in extreme conditions called ‘adaptations’.
I am going to focus on the adaptations of four specific living organisms, which are:
Polar bears
Camels
Cacti
Extremophiles
Extremophiles
Extremophiles are organisms that survive and reproduce in extreme environments and can survive conditions that would kill most other organisms. The extreme conditions can include: high temperatures high concentrations of salt in water high pressures.
Here are some basic examples of extremophiles and how they adapt to their environment:
Certain bacteria can live in hot springs or around deep-sea hydrothermal vents, where the water can be very hot. They are able to do this because they have an enzyme that can withstand these temperatures without denaturing.
Certain plants grow well in salt marshes where the salt concentration is too high for most plants.
