Billy and Alyssa are two young people that have a serious addiction to tanning. They do everything from using a tanning bed to lying out in the sun for hours. As many people know there are many dangers of tanning. Any way of tanning is bad for you. Tans are caused by harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun or tanning lamps which causes cell damage. The increasing damage caused by UV radiation can lead to premature skin aging like wrinkles, lax skin, brown spots, and more, as well as skin cancer. These are pretty serious health issues that happen when tanning but to Billy and Alyssa none of these things will stop them from doing it. Not only is it effecting there health it is also affect their relationship with their family and friends. Billy is a 19 year old that started tanning when he was a freshman in college. When he was younger he always felt so unattractive and had no confidence in himself at all. When Billy was in 11th grade a lot of things changed in his life. He changed up his look by changing his hair getting his braces off and coming out and telling people that he was gay. The one thing left that he didn’t like about himself was that he was really pale. He felt that it would make him better looking and give him more confidence if he was tanner. His obsession with tanning started when he met a girl in college that was super tan. He says she inspired him to get really tan. He loved the way he looked tan and ever since then it has become something he has to do twice a day. In one day he tans outside for two hours and then goes to the tanning salon at night. The only problem Billy has is that his family and friends keep telling him that he needs to stop or he is going to get skin cancer. He fights with his dad a lot about his tanning problem. He feels that he is tanning responsible and as long as it makes him feel good he is going to keep doing it. To try and make things better with his dad he went spray

    Akwasi, I had never thought about tanning bed usage being a type of addiction of behavior repetitiveness. That's an interesting point, as something becomes a habit we tend to just continue to do it without consciously considering any consequences of it.
