Adeline's Sad Childhood In Chinese Cinderella
Autumn of 1941 is where our depressing story begins. The story Chinese Cindrella is a story that tells you about the main character Adeline's sad childhood. In the novel, Chinese Cinderella by Allen Yangma is depressing. It is depressing because she is mistreated, treated like a servant, and sent away.
Mistreated, to be mistreated is the act of being unfair to others, this is exactly how Adelines childhood was. For example,¨ I meant so little to him, I was such a nobody that he didn´t even remember my name (Yen Mah 124). This is depressing because her own father doesn't even know her name. This is important because it shows that nobody cares for her, not even her own father. Another reason that Adelines childhood is sad is because she was not allowed to eat or drink for 8 hours. This is depressing because Adeline isn't growing up like a normal kid, this proves that she is not going to have a social life and that she is going to grow up to be a servant. This is also ad because it shows that she is never included in anything, just like a servant. Niang is constantly at the house either serving/ helping yeye or just doing nothing. For example, ¨”For a week, Niang went out with the Schillings. She always invited yeye, but never included me” (154) Overall, Biang treats Adeline like a servant in this story. In this book Adeline is constantly on a plane off to a new boarding school. “ Niang wanted me to pack my bag immediately because i was being taken away.” (157) This is depressing because it shows that Niang hates her and that she is getting sent away. This is also very sad because it shows that she is getting taken away again just because Nian doesn't like her. This proves that Niang hates her and that Adeline has gone to many places. “ Niang took me north to Tianjin from Shanghai.

Her character greatly affected all the characters in the novel. She was the spokes holding their family wheel together. Darl longed for her approval, while Jewel had her sitting on a pedestal. Anse, even through all his selfish, narcissistic ways, looked up to her and felt attached to her, even beyond her death. He felt like he owed her something. Her character is similar to Vardaman’s character in the sense that they are both unable to fully express themselves. Vardaman resorts to comparisons such as ‘my mother is a fish’ (pg. 84) while Addie resorts to having an affair with Whitefield.…

“‘Your aunt is a bad influence… I'm afraid the two of you will have to be separated.’” (104). Child abuse is to use wrongly or improperly to one’s authority. Fisher’s foster family experiences were tragically marked by emotional abuse, molestation and abandonment. Fisher’s molestation is from the repeated rape by his female babysitter. This incident leads him to emotional trauma that hunts him throughout most of his young adult life. He blames himself for everything that took place. Fisher mentions the molestation as fear that kept him quiet for all those years instead of shame. Furthermore, the murder of his father and the disowning from his mother caused Fisher to feel abandoned. In addition, Antwone never had a sense of belonging with his foster family. He looked at himself to be an uninvited guest in the…

“Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid” (Albert Einstein). This quote especially applies to the main character of Chinese Cinderella, Adeline. Many people gave her the impression that she was worthless, but some believed in her. In the memoir Chinese Cinderella by Adeline Yen Mah, Adeline has a very tough childhood. However, her grandfather, Ye Ye, and her aunt, Aunt Baba, continuously support her, and Adeline would not have risen above her abusive childhood without them.…

Drawing on her many years of psychology training and client therapy, Jacqueline Schectman, director of training for the Jung Institute of Boston, makes a comparison between the four archetypes in Cinderella and the stages of grief families and children she treats in therapy. In her article, she describes a step-mother who, rather than hostile and unfeeling, seems to present a structure and truth to an abandoned little girl; step-sisters who are themselves reeling from unacknowledged grief; and a father who has withdrawn into his own pain resulting from the loss of his wife.…

Films that I particularly favor are thrillers. One reason Thrillers become so enjoyable for me, a sense of diversion is created making the viewers more indulge in the movie all the way to the ending. The plots are usually twisted, climatic, suspenseful and intelligence is often use far as the writing perspective to result in an ecliptic viewing of the movie. A really great thriller will usually bring a shock factor by the climax, then the movie will receive a better understanding from the beginning to end. Another genre of films I enjoy are Musicals they are fashionable and express emotions through singing. I am really into lyricism so I enjoy comparing the actual expression of the each character's individual story and the progression…
