For Adidas, the beginning was with shoes. “Shoes to play in, shoes to play better in, shoes to win in.” Shoes that, one day would go on to be worn by champions that would win trophies and medals, shoes that would break impossible records. Athletes of all kinds would wear them and create magic wearing them. Today, Adidas is one of the world’s leading brands, recognized and respected. In 1925, in a small German village, the world got its first taste of Adidas. It was there, in a village by the name of Herzogenaurach, located 12 miles to the north and the west of Nuremberg that those three stripes were brought to life by Adidas ' founder, Adolf "Adi" Dassler. Dassler created Adidas after setting a goal that he will create the best performance athletic shoes. Which ironically enough are still the main products that Adidas is known for. Adidas has continued to gain recognition throughout the years. Many credit this to Adidas ' quality, styling and reputation. Adidas is currently the largest supplier of athletic shoes in Europe. Adidas ranks second worldwide, with their products selling in almost 200 countries. In 1994 alone, Adidas sales totaled 3 billion dollars. In late 1995, Adidas went public with its stock. It was a huge success and continues to trade worldwide.…

“Adidas’s corporate strategy has been all along to improve on athletic footwear so as to give athletes an edge in competitive events (Sunset, 2009).” Their common approach has been to merge and divest other sporting goods, and apparel and footwear entities, to implement a marketing strategic tool of matching their product line with famous athletes and sporting events according to their product line. Adidas’s goal has been to focus on surpassing Nike the leader in the global sporting goods industry. There has since been an obvious change in strategic approach from prior to acquiring Reebok International and divesting Salomon winter sports line in 2005 and 2006. They were unable to integrate the winter apparel line of Salomon with the adidas footwear thus having created an unattractive acquisition (Gamble, 2010 p. C-332). The restructuring has changed strategy as now integration forms a more close and narrow resource fit. More cross business value chain match ups appear…
