DECREASING TEEN PREGNANCY
The “big idea” I chose to write about is “Teen Pregnancy”. My thesis statement is “Teen Pregnancy is a growing problem here in the United States. School and parents need to educate their teen on the consequences before it’s too late”. My thesis statement will be effective because it grabs your attention, and explains what I will be talking about. The challenges I might face in supporting this thesis is getting the correct information, and finding the right amount of information I need to support it.
When I do research on my topic I need to make sure my source is reliable and up to date. I found some useful websites on the internet such as teenhelp.com, wiki.com, and healthfinder.gov. There are organizations such as The Candies Foundation, New Hope and National Support Center. I am going to be interviewing a young teen mom; she will be talking about what it’s like for her and the expenses that comes along with it. Some teens will probably not want to hear why it’s important for them not to get pregnant and the consequences, but once they hear someone else’s story, they might realize why it’s so important.
If I were to pitch an argument on teen pregnancy it will say: The growth of teenage pregnancy has gone up. Teens need to realize what the consequences are, such as having to drop out of school, expenses, lack of sleep, not being able to hang out with friends as much and having your body change. We need to do something about it before our teenage daughter’s get pregnant. Talking to your child about it can make a difference. Over 820,000 teens become pregnant each year (teenhelp.com). We need to educate them before it is too late.

Teen pregnancy in today's society has become a huge issue in this era. Most of these teenager's are still in high school and have no way of having anyone to help them. Most are eventually going to be single parents raising a child or aborting the child. "In 1999 over 148,000 teenage pregnancies ended in abortion" (advocatesforyouth.org). This leads teenage mother's to parent their child in single-parent homes or have illegal abortions. Even though some of these teens have no knowledge on the effects on abortions they find it to be the easiest way to make the situation better. However, aborting a child may not always be the best answer to solving a problem, but it should be a decision they are able to make on their own.…

More than one million teenagers are becoming pregnant and more than 80% of them are unplanned pregnancies. This number is so high because teenagers are not taking the responsibility of practicing safe sex and mainly because of abortion. In 38 states a minor must have parental consent to go though the abortion. Teens are often looking to abortion but when they do not get consent, they practice more unsafe options that are harmful to both the mother and their baby. Teen pregnancy is at an all time high and as a country we, as a country; need to lower the rate that it is moving.…

Teenagers enter their adolescent years with a mixture of optimism, excitement and apprehension. Rightfully so! Adolescence is a time when boys and girls begin to establish greater independence from their parents. It is also a time when young people begin to develop the sense of personal individuality that will help define their future identity as adults. It is not easy for parents or teenagers to smoothly navigate this transitional stage which is often accompanied by an increase in tension and strain in the parent-child relationship. Some parents find it easy to keep the lines of communication open with an adolescent child. These parents are often perceived by the child as stable sources of positive influence, and the teen feels supported in his/her growing independence. Employ fair and firm discipline. Discipline changes as your child grows up and becomes a teenager. But it doesn't stop. Your teen will still need your guidance and discipline. You will still need to say 'no'. You will still need to have consequences in place if your teen refuses to adhere to your family's rules. Basically, fair and firm discipline is you, the parent, creating a discipline plan for your teen that is fair to both of you and sticking to it using a firm and loving approach. When you employ the fair and firm discipline approach your teen will learn the value of doing what is right along with how to take responsibility for their actions. It's a win-win that leads directly to raising your teen successfully. Teach your teen life skills. Life skills are those abilities you need to make it in the world outside of your family's home. For instance, can your teen cook? Or do they know how to use a bank account? These skills help a teen not only survive, but thrive when they begin to live on their own. Parents need to be aware of the tasks they do for their teens and be sure their teens are capable of successfully doing them too.…

Everyone needs to take a break from their lifestyle and just sit down and take it all in sometimes. When I asked myself where the best place to do that is, I don’t have to think for more than a second. My favorite spot to sit and observe what’s going on is the park. The air always smells so fresh and clean, the grass was beginning to turn slightly brown. The ground was covered with a blanket of colorful leaves that had fallen from the trees like snow, leaving branches almost bare. The sound of children’s laughter coming from the park, so many things for the children to choose from to play on, such as the monkey bars, slides, a rock climbing wall, swings, basket ball court and so much more. I wasn’t expecting to find so many interesting things that I’ve never really paid attention to, just by watching people.…

Teen pregnancy, since 1990 is on the decline, however is this a good thing or a bad thing? There are plenty of arguments for whether teen pregnancy is a pro or a con. I am here to state why it is a pro. Though most people think that many teen pregnancies are the result of a poor upbringing there is a survey by the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy that finds that teen parents represent every socioeconomic and demographic category: 41% of U.S. teen parents come from homes at or above 200% of the federal poverty line, and 70% were raised in two-parent homes. Being a teen father there are many ways in which being a teen parent is not the end of the world. Unplanned teen pregnancy is beneficial, although it has its downsides, because it can make relating to the child as they grow easier, teen parents are able to work the necessary hours that go with starting and supporting a family, and can keep up with the energy of a young child.…

Children are raised differently each day. The way parents raise their children can affect them throughout life, and make them who they become as an adult. This is why it is important for parents and teens to have healthy relationships. Some parents whip their children for doing something wrong, some scold their children and whip them, but some do not even care about what their children do and in the future, this could be a major problem, especially for teenagers. When it comes to parents having to understand what their teenager is doing with their lives sometimes, it is unbearable for the parents.…
