In 1932 Eichmann had joined the small Nazi Party due to the suggestion of an acquaintance. In August 1933, he joined the “Austrian Legion,” a group organized for unemployed Nazi Party members. In a few months, Eichmann had earned the title of SS-Scharführer, or Sergeant. He still worked here when they became part of the RSHA in 1939.
