Adolf Hitler's Operation Barbarossa

Hitler’s ultimate dream was to shatter the USSR and to create a massive empire for Germany. On 22 June 1941, hitler launched Operation Barbarossa. Where 3 million Germans soldiers in 153 divisions raced across the frontier into the USSR. With Hitler’s tactic called the “blitzkrieg” he defeated the Red Army. It took them 3 months to take over. The German did this by using 700 aircraft and 20,00 tanks. They suffered 4 million casualties and half them died. In September of 1941 Leningrad(another city in the USSR) was under attack. In the south, German forces had control of the Ukraine. In the central of Russia, the Germans almost reached the capital. Stalin then seriously considered surrendering.
