A Former police detective named Adrian Monk has suffered from intensified obsessive- compulsive disorder also known as OCD. As well as a variety of phobias since the murder of his wife, Trudy, in 1997. Despite his photographic memory and his amazing ability to piece tiny clues together, he is now on psychiatric leave from the San Francisco Police Department. Monk works as a freelance detective/consultant who is trying to get back on the force. The captain of the force wont let Monk back on until he realizes that he is able to handle the problems that come with the job. The murder of his wife and his inability to solve the case exacerbated his condition to the point where he finds it impossible to function in society without assistance. Monk's assistant is Natalie Teeger, whose loss of her own partner allows her a deeper bond with him than anyone could ever have. Like Sherlock Holmes, Monk absorbs clues from everything at the scene. The smell of the curtains, the height of a chair, a picture on a bookcase. Unlike Holmes, he can't stop fussing about whether he turned off the gas or where he last put his keys. Monk’s personality is very different than many other people. There are four key psychological concepts that describe Monk. The First concept is Socialization. Socialization is a lifelong process of shaping on individuals behavior patterns, values, standards, skills, attitudes and motives to conform. Monk was a normal individual as he was growing up. He didn’t have any OCD problems during his younger years. But because of the incident that happened with his wife, it now has really effected his personality. Monk doesn’t know how to go out into the world and become social. He must have someone with him or else he will not go out into public. Monks life will never be the way it used to be.
