Adult Development And Career Life Assessment
Adult Development and career Life Assessment

Jan. 21, 2010

With the internet implemented worldwide the dating scene has revolutionized. The single lifestyle in my opinion is slowly becoming a thing of the past, especially with social networking sites such as e-harmony, match.com, my-space, or even facebook. How can one define the single life? It depends on who you ask on what kind of definition you will get. In the dictionary single is defined as a relating to the unmarried state or no longer living with. I define being single as being someone who is not actively participating in a relationship with a like minded individual. I have been single for the most part of my life. My very first relationship was my sophomore year in high school.

I do believe that we live in a coupled world as opposed to a singles world. One such example that we live in a coupled world is the holiday called Valentine’s day. Valentine’s day is a holiday built around couples and is simply not meant for people that are not in a relationship. Media, whether it is the internet, books, or television shows, often involve people being in a relationship or a romance of some kind. Single people have social pressure to find a partner by a certain age and another age at which to be married. Once a person hits a certain age, then the person, if not in a relationship, will be bombarded with questions from family and friends alike asking if they have found anyone. Most people who are single also don’t do certain recreational activities such as going to see a movie due to the social stigma that a person who is at the movies by themselves has no friends which means that he or she is weird. To finish, I believe that we do live in a coupled world because single people have entire holidays in which they cannot participate and have social pressure to find a…

Although Huberman’s seminal work on teachers’ life cycles is very influential and expands teachers’ professional development throughout the course of a career, his framework only suggests career cycle trajectories, with varying needs at different stages. They also remind us that the sequence and timing of these stages may be variant, uniquely individual, and recursive and spiraling rather than…

The three-career Assessment taken last week was an eye opener for me. This is because it makes me understand some new thing about myself. Let me start by analyzing the Triatify Assessment, this assessment gives me a better understand of the kind of person I am or let me say, who am going to become. One thing that surprised me after taking the assessment is that, it said that “I’m a kind of person who is comfortable being the center of attention. My friends admire this about me because I’m not only the life of a party but I have a big heart helping people”. I know this about myself because this is not the first-time people will say something like this to me. I’m a kind of person who loves to go out of my comfort to satisfy people around me,…

I thought the career exploration assessment was helpful. It was helpful because I am just starting my first semester of college, and I am always looking forward for advice and guidance to choose the best career path fit for me. I took the “My Career Planning Readiness” exam and received good results. According to the results, I am doing well. The “My Academic Strengths” exam reinforced my strengths and weaknesses in the many different subjects. For the “Work Interest Assessment”, I scored the highest for social, then conventional, and lastly investigate. I am not surprised to see my scores the way they are because I want to become a nurse. Nurses are helpers. They aid sick people to get well. Secondly, I also think that conventional fits me…

There are different types of singles in the US there is the Never married singles, Divorced singles, Widowed singles. Being single has some costs; individuals who are single are more likely to contract deceases or STIs. Women are also more likely to contract STIs from men, than men are from women. There are many ways to finding a partner such as, hanging out which is getting together, in groups, it might often be referred as “Testing the waters.” Another way is hooking up, in other words, casual sex, which has no emotion behind it and no plans of seeing each other again. There is also other ways to find a partner such as using the Internet or video chatting. One way that can also be helpful is speed dating which consists of having multiple dates at once in a couple of minutes. This procedure can be helpful because both women and men can meet and socialize multiple people in a certain amount of time instead of taking the whole evening just for one date. Dating after divorce could be a little challenging and cal also have a few problems; the way they date could be completely different than when they first did. They tend to use the Internet for new partners, there are fewer potential partners, and there is a…

I chose to do the self-assessment of CareerLeader to try and help me get a feel for what career fields connect with my motivations and my interests. My interests rated as a personal high was not a surprise to me with the application of technology, being the highest score with 87. The description behind application of technology was interested in learning about and using new technologies. Enjoy analyzing and designing (or redesigning) business processes such as production and operations systems. Which is relatively true I enjoy doing in-depth research into the newest upcoming technology and how I can use it. The description section about enjoying analyzing the business process stood out to me, I catch myself doing this often in any situation I’m a part of. One thing CareerLeader said to be aware of was if I was seeking a job in the engineering field some places will not accept me if I do not have an engineering degree. I took this interest as being more relatable to the newest technology a company could use to help its sales, finances, and PR.…

I fell in love with it immediately. It was all I ever wanted to do. Dance gave a place to just be me. I made lifelong friends and learned life lessons. Dance taught me discipline, drive and focus. While I on the competitive team, my parents would remind me that school came first. During Stage 3, we experience the desire to copy the adults around us. (Erikson, 1950) My sister, Jen, is 7 years older than me. She may not have been an adult, but I looked up to her like an adult. She was in dance, so I wanted to dance too.
