Advance directive in a true definition means a written document that you will sign telling your surrogate what to do with your body when you’re sick or if you passed. The document indicates your choices about medical treatment; you can also name someone to make decisions about your medical treatment called a surrogate if you are unable to make these decisions. Basically a Advance directive is a way for your family to make medical decisions for your body when your in a critical state. A living will is a written statement that tells your surrogate what type of procedures or decisions you want made with your body. For example if you cannot make a decision because you are in a coma or a vegetative state it will tell them whether to pull the plug or keep you breathing on life support. A living will is not a regular will which means a living will, will only tell your surrogate or family what to do with you only in medical conditions. A health proxy is a document that when you sign it is selecting a person to make the decisions for you. Which means if you cannot make these decisions they will make what they think is the best for you. So the difference between the two documents is with the Will you get to make your own decisions even if you cannot at the moment you still have control. With the proxy your putting your body and life with another member of your family to make the right decisions for you. Reasons to have Advance Directives are because if gives you a voice when you really don’t have one. They are optional to have but it is the best thing to have so you will always have control of your life. It is the only way to make sure your wishes are held to your complete liking because it is written in a legal document. Especially if your in a horrible position put on life support living in pain you can be taken off and pass on
