In any multicultural society, the degree of tolerance and respect plays an important role in dtermining whether a muticultural society is an advantage or otherwise. The presence of tolerance in a society amongst members of different backgrounds and ethics can ensure a stable political situation as well as a stable economy, as members of the society do not merely respect each other but also value peace amongst themselves. This enables the society itself to cultivate friendship amongst members of different cultures and helps the country grow and prosper. However, no society is perfect in addition there is the temptation of greed and selfishness. The lack of tolerance within a multicultural society undeniably brings disadvantages to society. The differnces in culture amongst members of the society are among the main reasons why many wars commence. Society becomes oppressed or even rebellious in an effort to `claim back' the rights which they deem to be theirs but have perceivably been lost. The commencement of wars or even minor hostilities resulting from a lack of respect can brinmg about disastrous results to the country and the society itself. Thus, a multicultural society is a disadvantage if tolerance and respect is absent from its members.
On the other hand, a multicultural society may promote an exchange of culture and this inevitably enriches a person as new approaches and conducts to experience may be garnered. The various approaches and conduct towards a method, problem or experience can help a person to make a better decision as well as open mind to the different ways available to conduct or commence a problem or even way of life. It can be seen that in this instance, a multicultural society is an advantage and not a disadvantage.
In conclusion, it can be stated that the advantages of a multicultural society outweigh the disadvantages because of tolerance amongst the members of the society and the inhabition of cultural exchange. Therefore, a multicultural society should be encouraged rather that regarded as a barrier to promote peace as peace is obtainable if members of the society are willing to practice tolerance and respect.

The more exposed a population is to foreign ideas and people, the more that population becomes desensitized to any stereotypes or prejudices. If we look at African Americans in present day America, their condition is the best that it has ever been in this country’s history mainly because newer generations of Americans are more racially tolerant than generations past. With each new generation will come even more racial and cultural tolerance because exposure with these generations to cultural diversity will be higher as the future unfolds. In modern globalization-oriented worldwide society, many countries and communities retain their cultural identity. However, Canada is one of the few that has officially adopted multiculturalism within itself. Naturally, multiculturalism is confused with diversity in racial and ethnical properties. To avoid this mislabelling, for the purposes of my essay, by a “multicultural” society I will assume a society where people of different cultures, nationalities, colour, and beliefs live together in one community. Therefore, multiculturalism is a diversity of two or more cultures in the same region or country. I would like to discuss the grounds on which multiculturalism exists in Canada, whether those grounds are legitimate, and whether the benefits of the policy offset the cost. As far as I am concerned, living in a multicultural society has three main disadvantages: lack of unity, constant conflict and resentment between cultures, and oversimplification of all cultural values in attempt to provide equal treatment to each culture.…

Our country has a wide variety of many cultures, races and ethnicities backgrounds. I have learned that each group has differences and similarities. These differences give us insight into other cultures, beliefs, and ways of life that we would not normally know. By embracing the differences through our diverse society, I have learned new concepts of living, new ways to thinking, and new ways to understand things that are different than my everyday life. Many of the groups that are so different have a common interest which is to coexist and thrive as one. It would be beneficial to our society if we would focus on the main interest of all, rather than focusing on how different we are from one another. In the past we were taught to judge based on race, cultures, and ethnicities. And now-a-days, we are taught to get to know a person before we pass judgment.…

A multicultural society is the status of several different ethnic, racial, religious or cultural groups coexisting in harmony in the same society. From the early 19th century people have immigrated to England, developing its diversity. During World War 2 polish and Jewish people immigrated to the UK to escape fascism. Also as the UK is part of the European Union, free and fair movement between the 28 member states means that there are no limits on immigration between these countries. This has seen it compulsory for the UK to adapt and change in order to accommodate for these individuals. For different ethnic minorities to coexist in harmony time is imperative, groups of different people will never coexist harmoniously over night. This is evidenced by holiday and school timetables being altered for ethnic minority groups, opportunities for people to learn English for free and websites being available in other languages.…
