Advantages Of AVID
The goal of AVID is to assist students into getting accepted to a 4 year college. This is accomplished through various ways, some of which are helpful and others which, are quite frankly a waste of time. AVID is not a perfect program but it does offer some advantages such as fee waivers for the SAT and ACT which encourages the AVID students to take those tests. Another clear positive are the AVID tutors which greatly assist the students when it comes to overcoming difficulties that they may face in their other classes whether it be practicing for a test or learning new material. I do feel the that the TRF’s were over complicated, we couldn’t just ask our tutors for help when we needed it but it was mandatory. This meant that many students

The book Me and Earl and the Dying Girl by Jesse Andrews and the song “Over My Shoulder” by Rudderless both strongly show the theme of how important it is to have friends to help guide you through life. In the book Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, the main character, Greg, is struggling to get through high school while also experience the tragedy of his friend, Rachel, having leukemia. Greg and Rachel both help each other greatly in different ways. The song, “Over My Shoulder”, is from the point of view of this guy who is struggling with making the right decisions, but he will always have his friend to stay by his side and help him through life, not matter what decisions he makes. The author and the songwriter both convey the same message throughout both of these texts using similar skills, such as dialogue and symbols, even though they use these skills in different ways.…

Although I see why Avid is a well-recognized program, I’ve personally had no benefit from it. It’s because of this that I predict exiting from the program won’t affect me. I know Avid will look good in my college transcript but I don’t worry about that since I have pretty good grades and keep them that way. When I need help, I can always go to my teachers for tutoring, as I already do. I’m aware that this is a new year and a fresh start but if it’s the same thing all over again, I know I would regret staying in the program for yet another year.…

I feel the most important thing with a program such as this is time management and getting as involved with your studies and peers as you can. I also feel that this can be difficult at times as well. Without the structure of a classroom and face to face interactions with your peers, it can be difficult to build the same repore with an online program. Lake and von Baeyer's article “Tips for Successful Students" is very helpful in that it defines, in easy steps, how to become a better student. With day to day stressors like a full time jobs, children, and bills staying diligent with school work can be difficult. My positive attitude and organization skills tend to be my strengths and will help me be a successful student. These qualities along with several other, make managing my life and obtaining a higher level of education more attainable.…

Not only did these classes enable me to take more rigorous courses, but they also allowed my vocabulary to flourish to levels unknown. Although, these classes were mainly for FCAT preparation, the words I learned I’m quite sure would leave some adults utterly puzzled. With a luxuriating vocabulary at a young age, minor passages just became easier and easier. This also paved the way for me to be one of the few seventh graders who were fortunate enough to get early SAT practice.…

This program has been implemented by Haslam, and as a result, more adults are being able to complete degrees that were started and never finished. Not only are they being able to finish the degrees they are also being able to do this with no debt because it, “gives eligible adults the chance to study at a technical college without tuition” (Tamburin). With this information being shared with adults in Tennessee there has been a great response to the program so much so that almost 11,000 have registered throughout the state (Slaby). This is a great response to the program that was created, not only are adults being able to finish the degrees that were never finished it is also a great example for future generations to go to college and get a college degree, and it is improving the state as a whole with a better economy and…
