Although, Frankel had been in Moscow for less than a quarter of a year, corporate questioned him as to what he was – or was not- doing. “Corporate executives wanted to see progress toward company goals- the revenue growth target was fixed at 40 percent and profitability target was high (Kanter & Bird, 2012).” As mentioned in the case, “He had met everyone in the organization and had identified several priority areas- increase business predictability, improve the organization’s sales efficiency, and focus on strategic internal processes (Kanter & Bird, 2012).” We agree with Frankel, based on these business needs, the focus needed to be turned towards building employee commitment and starting a more collaborative approach as opposed to silos since “there was high risk of internal collapse due to lack of employee commitment, reluctance to follow company guidelines, or negative interaction in cross-line processes….” “The mission was to transform the organization in one year into a profitable and fast-growing subsidiary;” Therefore, targeting employee satisfaction and overall morale was necessary. There are several ways to increase employee commitment. One proposed technique is to foster a culture of appreciation. “Using small spot rewards when an employee goes above and beyond their job description can go a long way in motivating them for the future. Rewards can include an extra afternoon off, a unique career development opportunity like a workshop or training session, or a small denomination gift card to popular retailers… (Freeland, 2013).” We believe that if a culture of appreciation is adopted at H-IT, it would increase employee morale which would thusly increase productivity followed by organizational profitability. By creating short-term wins and providing small spot rewards accordingly Frankel can build a sense of appreciation for the employees’ hard work which will
