Slow and Steady Wins the Race There are many ways people can make fun of someone just by the way they look or how they do things. Most people who make fun of others may not know what can be expected of that person and can change that perspective about they view them. They can also be ridiculed because they are inexperienced. The fable in the book Aesop’s Fables that follows this example and relates to a real life experience of mine is The Hare and the Tortoise (65). It was a skiing trip I had taken for my first time with my friend. The nickname that I called him was Ginger and my nickname that he called me was Slow Poke. This skiing trip that I decided to go on with my friend Ginger was supposed to be a fun, learning experience for the both of us. While we took our first skiing lessons on a small hill, I could see the big hill in front of me with the white fluffy snow covering it. I could not wait until I could get up there to do some real skiing with my friend. After a three hour lesson of skiing, my friend Ginger and I decided we would go on the big hill because we were ready for it. Ginger was always over confident of himself and always thought he was better than anyone at anything and could beat them at anything. He couldn’t wait to get up that hill so he could show off his new “moves” he learned during our training session. When we arrived at the top of the hill Ginger was already confident that he was better than me at skiing and that he could beat me in one race even though we just learned how to ski. I did not want to race him because I did not feel comfortable racing yet until I got the hang of it. I told Ginger; “I am not going to race you because I just don’t feel comfortable” Ginger called me a chicken and said, “I wouldn’t do it”. I over thought it and I decided I would try it. We got ready to race and I could feel my heart beating so fast I couldn’t think straight. Ginger counted “one two three” and we began going down the hill.
