The idea was to allow a certain number or percentage of minorities to be admitted into college or hired to maintain a good diversity in the college or company. The number or percentage was called a quota and was used even if the minorities did not have the same qualifications, grades or experience as other candidates. Employment candidates who were more qualified, but were Caucasian, would not be offered the job if a black person also applied in order to satisfy the Affirmative Action requirements. Similarly, colleges would admit students with lower grade average, lower SAT or ACT scores in an effort to meet the Affirmative Action requirements. To the people that oppose Affirmative Action your right to disagree is there to exercise. If I have the right to support it, you most definitely have the same right to speak out against it. We could also spend page after page talking about institutional racism, however, as adults we all should have a clear understanding of what is a privilege and what is a right. Live humble enough as to not take privileges for granted, or as a guarantee to our everyday normal life, because not everyone has access to those
