They spoke about how the K-12 school system can improve (educationally and socially). As there were a few education majors in the audience, the speakers were addressing everyone and how greatly segregated the K-12 school systems are. In the audience, not everyone ever had an African American teacher or professor until they reached college or university level. Also, the speakers spoke about how there was a lot of funding being cut towards programs such as art and music classes; classes in which students are allowed to explore who they are as an individual, creatively. Also, the speakers briefly spoke about how there were racial conflicts on campus; they gave a lot of encouragement to the audience on how they can make a difference to make campus a better and safer place. Society can learn from what speakers said because college/university students and K-12 students are our society’s future. How we learn will most definitely affect how society is shaped in the future.
I personally gained a lot from listening to the guest speakers. They changed my views on a few topics, such as the education system in K-12 schools. I am vey grateful of them taking time out of their busy schedules to address some of the topics that are rarely ever discussed. There won’t be many times after college where I can have mentors share their insights and
