African Americans In The 18th Century

Africa is a continent that developed a unique relationship with Europe during the time period from the early 15th century to the early 18th century. This is made obvious in opening sentence in source 1 (secondary) However, slavery didn’t end in the whole United States until Abraham Lincolns emancipation proclamation that took effect on January 1st 1863. Online source, – East of England Broadband Network and MLA East of England 2009 (secondary), explicitly states that, Africa from the early 15th century towards the 18th century was enslaved by the Europeans and Americans. Africans were taken from their homeland and families and forced onto slave boats, then sold into slavery, where they would spend the remainder of their life in misery, and
So therefore, it would be much easier to attack and enslave the native people there. So, the Africans were abducted from Africa and forced to work doing jobs as the Industrial Revolution grew larger. Soon machines like the cotton gin (short for cotton engine) were created and even more slaves were needed. So therefore, more cotton was grown and more slaves were needed to harvest the cotton and place it in the cotton gin. These types of job were common on a plantation. The African slaves would use the cotton gin to speed up the process of separating the seeds from the cotton fibre, then it would be hand woven into fabric. That fibre was sent to Europe, in Europe the fabric would be created into clothing and other goods such as weapons, were sent to Africa. Then from Africa slaves were sent to the United States and this process would repeat until the abolishment of the Transatlantic Slave Trade.
