Sister Scotty started the trip right from the very beginning with mailing out professional travel booklet/package full of information we needed to prepare correctly for the AFRICAN HERITAGE CUBA TOUR DECEMBER 2-12, 2016. As well, she conducted three telephone conference calls and sent out emails to answer any questions, concerns, and to update the group about pertinent information. It was the best travel agent/company encounter we have ever experienced in our thirty-years of traveling. Plus, as mentioned and worth mentioning again—Sister Scottye’s KOLA NUT TRAVEL is Black (African American)—real Black (in her Heart, Mind and Soul—where it really counts). Bless Sister Scottye’s travel business and life—in its continual growth and

In New York there was an abundance of people to be apart of the band and to be the audience. The people who came to see Machito and the Afro-Cubans were of all races and had varied audiences. When Africans arrived to Cuba during the 1770’s they didn’t forget their traditional music. They brought their instrument and style of music and dance with them. Because Africans came from different region of Africa to Cuba they could mixed their different style to create the beginning of salsa. “African drums from far off places like Nigeria, Dahomey, and Ghana married the Spanish guitar to bring us clave. The seeds were planted in the Caribbean and now…

In my research, to understand how we undertake the study of the African experience you have to start in the beginning of time which dates back hundreds of thousands years ago and go into one of the first civilizations known as ancient Egypt. Understanding where the people come from and where they are at today does not even cover a quarter of understanding the true African experience. To understand truly how to undertake the African experience you must understand the social structure, governance, ways of knowing, science and technology, movement and memory, and cultural meaning (The six conceptual categories). With these concepts you understand that in a cosmograph known as the circle of life, there is a cycle that is always repeated: birth, the peek of life, death, the peek of death and rebirth. “Anything above the line is alive, anything below the line is dead.” The experience is continued all the way from beginning to the current time and you have to know all the stages to fully understand the true African experience.…

When first thinking of Africa not many people think of the great ancient African civilizations that shaped our world today. The movie the Wonders of the African World opened up my eyes to the amazing Black Kingdoms that were built in Africa and their advanced civilizations. The histories of these kingdoms have been ignored by many, for example the Nubian people had built great pyramids just as Egypt did and yet these people didn’t get the recognition for it. In fact, in ancient times these people were the most intelligent civilizations in the world, they even had universities in Meroe the capital of ancient Nubia along with huge temples and their own form of writing. The saddest part of all this is that there were many intelligent and sophisticated black rulers of ancient Africa and people are reluctant to accept this because of the great surge of racism.…

However, when taking a deeper look, one can see beyond the surface into the reality of the situation. Taking into consideration the ideas of female sexuality as it pertains to tourism in the Caribbean, people tend to envision call-girls at upscale parties and prostitutes that sell their bodies to the highest bidder. Almost every night the people whistle and chant to the music that is starting to play at the large arena. The initiation starts with a loud thundering drum. The trumpet joins with the core melody with the great high pitched voices. The projection and the distinctiveness of the Spanish voices make it unique. The first words are only to inject fun and dance. Once the singers step the first step to the dance, all the brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments whirl together. The sharp upbeats leap the body to move its joints. Both genres of music have two ways of sound: they delight the ear with tremendous rhythm, but as the night flows, their passive, sweet melodies join soul mates. The sounds that pass through Mexico makes us live so vividly and happy. Despite the sounds of the instruments, the auditory the lyrics make is special. Most lyrics are inspirational music. The voice unit the people through words, experiences, and advice. From lost wars in the past to independence, to rising and falling or even to love songs, it engages the public’s…
