In this paper I will argue the reasons why I am against home assignments for the early levels of elementary schools. Although homework can have some positive effects for students in the upper grade levels such as, practicing out of school material and learning the responsibility of time management by turning homework in on time. I believe that homework should be removed from students at the Prek-2nd grade level. Providing homework to students, particularly at the Prek-2nd grade level in American can be faulty. I will present examples of the negative results homework has on children such as: stress (mental health, and physical well-being). But does homework have any sort of impact, negative or positive for students ages four through eight? “For elementary students, no amount of homework -large or small- affects achievement (Cooper 88). This means that children are often given homework assignments that have no value at all. On average my son receives 6-8 different types of homework sheets. I’ve mentioned before, homework makes my son uncomfortable. Looking at the homework closely I concluded that four of the sheets had minimum correlation to what the study plan was in school. No wonder my 1st grade child is confused and nervous when it comes to homework hour. It is obvious to me that children at a younger age are not capable of completing homework because they simply don’t understand. Keep in mind that not all homes are created equal and not all parents have the luxury to help their child in detail when they get stuck with their home assignments, obviously all children come from different backgrounds and it would only be fair if homework was looked at a little closer in a equally matter for all young
