Illegal immigration has been a problem for the United States for a long time. This concern is not a new and thousands of illegal immigrants have come to US by crossing the Mexican border, by boat or ship across one of the oceans, or by a number of other various ways at any of the borders. Some people have entered the country legally by using a visitor's visa, then have stayed illegally after the visa has expired and continue to live and work in our country. Employers that hire illegal immigrants to worker for them, do this because the immigrants can be hired at a pay rate less than minimum wage and the responsibility of taxes for these undocumented worker can be avoided by both the worker and the employer. Most of these workers are hired to work in the agricultural, manufacturing, and construction industries. These workers are not given any kind of health care or any other benefits and can easily be mistreated or discriminated against since they do not have any legal rights. This can cause hardship for the illegal immigrants and also put strain on the government at a local, state, and federal level due to the evasion of taxes. The general population is also affected by illegal immigrants since these immigrants are taking jobs away from the legal citizens and driving up the unemployment rate of our country. The United States has a right to limit and control immigration into the country and I feel that every attempt possible should be taken to minimize this ongoing problem of illegal immigration.
