Agarwood Case Study
Aquilaria Malaccensis is the main producer of agarwood and this species has largest population in Malaysia. The resinous part of Aquilaria genus is more recognized as Agarwood, Gaharu, Aloeswood, Eaglewood, Jinkoh and Oud (Nor Azah et. al, 2014). The term agarwood is commonly used to refer to the resinous heartwood from the Aquilaria trees.

Agarwood is a resinous wood substance that is produces by the trees as a non-specific host response to wounding, insects or microbial invasion (Mohamed et al., 2014). The production of oleo-resin occur when a tree primary defense mechanism is inhibited due to any attack and it will response to injury by producing the resin which acts as a chemical barrier to attacks by fungi, insects, and others. In this research, the heartwood of the trees gets inoculated by a fungus, Fusarium. The trees give response by producing a resin high in volatile organic compounds resin which helps in inhibiting the growth of fungal (Benedict, 2009). The oil is extracted from the fragrant resin found in the agarwood tree trunk. In medicine, perfumery and other aromatic products, the resin and its oil are very valuable for their use.

Agarwood oil is a highly prized type of oil due to its unique aroma. The presence of certain chemical compounds has contributed to the unique aroma and quality of the agarwood resin and oil. Sesquiterpenes and chromones have been reported to be the main active components that play important roles in giving the aroma and pleasant odor of agarwood (Hashim et al., 2014). Phenolic acids and volatile oils released from the leaves, bark, and roots of certain Eucalyptus spp. have deleterious effects on other plant species. In the study of Bughio et al., using the eucalyptus camaldunlensis as allelopathy agent against Acasia nilotica, The Eucalyptus leaf litter and leaf litter extract also caused significant reduction in seedling vigour index of Acacia nilotica. Based on the results of their study it is concluded that allelopathy is a concentration-dependent phenomenon, as the concentration of the E. camaldulensis treatments increases, its effect increases. The leaf litter and leaf litter extract affected all the parameters as compared to the control. Based on the study of Anwar, Eucalyptus has been known to be able to excrete a substance harmful called allelopathy, to other vegetation. To encourage the establishment of timber estate, it is necessary to examine the effects of allelopathy on other plants, whenever mixed plantation is carried out. Three kind of plant portion (fresh leaf, leaf litter and root) from two Eucalyptus species (Eucalyptus alba and E. deglupta) which are suspected to have allelopathy and five extract concentrations (0%, 5%, 10%, 15% and 20%) were used as treatment for the growth of Shorea palembanica seedlings. The experiment result showed that Eucalyptus was allelopathic against Shorea seedlings.     As can be seen, the general procedure of changes in different drying methods is that the lowest percentage of essential oils is associated with a temperature of 60°C in the hot air, infrared and ultrasound methods, and while the highest essential oil content is related to the ultrasound method at 40°C. Therefore, according to the results of the research, using the high temperatures in the hot air, infrared and ultrasound dryers gives rise to reducing the yields of essential oils of the valuable medicinal plant. These results are in line with those of other researchers. The results of Fathi and Sefidkon's study (2012) based on the statistical analysis of the yields of essential oils of Eucalyptus showed that the least amount of essential oils was associated with the dried sample in an oven at 50°C (2.30%).
