Teenagers have the ability to make things clearly apparent and obvious in egocentrism through an imaginary audience that is watching every move that the teenagers are making. For example when a mother is with her teenage son, and they are exposed to the public and the mother tries to show her feelings and emotions to her son when he is surrounded…

Becoming an adolescent is a time where you go from child to adult. At this time you will experience things your body maturing and your sexual identity as a young adult. (Zastrow, C. H., & Kirst-Ashman, K. K. (2010)) When coming into adulthood you tend to have your personality develop more along with your morals. You will find yourself experimenting and evaluating who you are. (Zastrow, C. H., & Kirst-Ashman, K. K. (2010)) In the social perspective teens will become more independent and yet still maintain that need for stability with their parents. Often time’s…
One might think that rebellion is the only way to express one’s individuality while being closely watched or expected to conform to a curtain code. The causes of teenage rebellion aren’t that complex. In order to become fully-functional adults, children need to separate themselves from dependency on adults. They need to assert themselves as grown human beings with thoughts and ideas of their own, that may be different from the generation that came before them. In an attempt to express his individuality Sammy feels the need to rebel and quit his job. “Sammy you don’t want to do this to your mom and dad” (Updike 435) Lengel says. Sammy replies “your right, I don’t” (Updike 435). But by this time in the story Sammy has gone too far to back pedal now. He knows that to take the final steps and become his own person, he has to go through with what he has started. So he takes of his bow tie and apron and walks out of the store, hoping the girls would be on the other side of the door waiting for him, ready to sing his praises and thank him the heroism he displayed inside. “In a study of adolescent sexuality, the social psychologist Janice Irving identifies nine areas that contribute to identity building during the adolescent years. These are gender relations; sexual identities; reproductive strategies; sexual language; the role of the family; non-reproductive sexuality; the purpose of sex; meaning of the body and sexual violence. Irving shows that cultural differences color each of these categories even as culture creates differences in understanding and behavior everywhere” (Falk 82). In the book Youth Culture and the Generation Gap, Gerhard Falk and Ursula Falk address the steps of adolescents seeking individuality through rebellion and other avenues of growth. Much like Sammy displaying his rebellion toward his boss, and also against his parents. He reached the time in his…
For over a century, states have accepted that the adolescent esteem structure was a vehicle to ensure people all things considered by giving a framework that reacts to teenagers who are shaping into adulthood. States see that youngsters who execute encroachment are not precisely the same as grown-ups: as a class, they are less to blame, and they have a more indispensable limit as to change. To react to these capabilities, states have built up an other court framework for adolescents, and they have made a substitute, youth-based association transport structure that is not the same as that accommodated grown-ups.…

The sentence “You’re never gonna fit in much, kid” explains why these teenagers have to resist the oppression given by adults. In today’s society, many teachers always expect their students to achieve higher score in tests and most of the parents always expect their children to be successful in all aspects. They both have high expectations on teenagers. In the meanwhile, teenagers keep trying to do their best to fit adults’ standards, but the problem is that adults will never be satisfied with their performance and keep making new requirements. Then the disappointment of adults will make teenagers depressed and pay too much attention on their academic performance. They probably lack confidence and are unable to balance study and entertainment well. As expressed in the article “Adolescent Mental Health And Academic Functioning: Empirical Support For Contrasting Models Of Risk And Vulnerability,” higher levels of depression and poorer academic performance are two main risk factors for adolescent mental health (Lucier-Greer, Mallory, et al. 1286). High expectations of adults would give teenagers great stress on their performance and the failure of achieving adults’ expectation would result in high-level depression. These two factors are very dangerous for teenagers to get mental health problems or even cause suicide. The primary source shows that adults need to change their…
The “Age of Responsibility”, 21, is a completely arbitrary age chosen unintelligibly by a group of men because twenty year olds still aren’t fully developed or trusted by society in general, and people don’t even develop at close enough rates to have a universal “Age of Responsibility”.…
Responsibility can be defined morally, legally or mentally, but What Is The Age Of Responsibility? Most countries consider 18 to be the legal adult age;however, government laws don’t consist properly. There are many legal age differences between the legal drinking age to the driving age limit. Adolescents rushing to become adult have pushed the government reconsider the age of responsibility. Therefore, 21 is the age of responsibility taking account: decision making, impulse control and maturity.…
The adolescent is preparing for independence and beginning the move away from parents and close carers towards their peers. They become less concerned about adult approval and turn instead to their friends. Many teens develop very close friendships within their own gender. Most also develop an intense interest in the opposite sex. They see security in group-acceptance and follow peer group dress and behaviour codes.…

According to Erik Erikson, adolescence is marked by the child’s questioning his or her identity during what he refers to as the identity versus identity confusion developmental stage. During this phase, the adolescent becomes mindful of his or her identity and seeks his or her purpose in life, as well as the answer to the eternal question, “who am I?” In their quest to find their sense of self, adolescents experiment with different personalities and roles. Some teenagers display rebellious behavior, which is normal, as they experience a flood of countless emotions. The teens that are able to cope with the differing identities are able to form a new identity that they can accept. On the other hand, those who cannot cope during this experimental period suffer what Erikson calls identity confusion, where they either withdraw themselves from everyone else, or they lose themselves in their peers.…
