The Enlightenment literature in Spain has three stages: Anti Baroque, Neoclassicism, and Pre Romanticism. The Anti Baroque stage goes against the style of baroque writers, saying that it’s too full and is too difficult to understand. Neoclassicism ended at the 18th century, and has a classic style of writings; it’s a renovation of the old style of Greece and Rome. And last, Pre Romanticism. This was about the tyranny of reason and the wants personal needs and emotions to be taken into contemplation, which was mainly about love. “This movement laid its foundations in a critical spirit...philosophy and science were the most valued sources of knowledge...human happiness was pursued by means of culture and progress. The expression of feeling was avoided, norms and academic rules were followed, and balance and harmony were valued.”
