Vesalius started his career as a supporter of Galen, but as he studied more he realized that Galen’s theories were incorrect. He began to question why Galen made these errors and determined that Galen had never dissected a human body but instead dissected other animals. Galen believed that the human mandible was made up of two separate bones instead of just one as he would assumed by only examining dog heads. This affected later generations because his methods were taught in all the schools at the time.
