cold face Ms. Cunningham blatantly said,“this paper is your bible, which means you have to follow it”. These words hit my ears like a ton of bricks as she gestured us to begin the first assignment, choosing our group and topic that will last the whole year. The students commenced to scatter like roaches to find group mates, while I was rejected from group to group. Until I saw an at the end of the tunnel of rejection, which was named Christmie and Olmankia that welcomed me into their group with open arms. As we bounced ideas around of the topic that we will choose, like, transport, urbanization, or tourism. Yet, in the end, we come to a final consensus on the topic of migration and work because this topic most impact our lives as being migrants ourselves.
However, there was another group that decided on the topic of migration and work, but Ms.
Cunningham eloquently stated that no two groups must have the same topic. As both groups went into a merciless debate that only one victor will reap the spoils, to be granted with the topic of migration and work. There seem as if there was no end in sight of this bickering, until Olmankia left them in shambles with this soul crushing rebuttal,“how can your group truly explain the positives and negatives of migrant lifestyles, if you have not walked a day in the shoes of a migrant?”, these bold words cut through the noises until there was nothing but silence among our peers. hand. Over approximately one week, we choose our group question, “what impact does migration and work have on school age students?”. As a plethora of hours spent on research for our group, which revising and editing until every detail was in place. The creation of the PowerPoint and video were two hurdles that hindered me from almost finishing before the due date. Most of how the teacher explained the project got lost in translation, so my group decided to search up websites that will elaborate on aspects of the project we needed further clarification on. In due, I concluded editing the individual PowerPoint with barely enough time to record and caught my breath. On the day of my PowerPoint presentation, I was bursting with confident that this with be my turn in the limelight in front of all my fellow peers. However, my day in the sun ever came as I fell and fumbled over basic word, like but not limited to can, migrant, you, and the list seem to grew as I continued to speak. The librarian, Mrs. Z was a god sent because she showed me how to editing the presentation video to the point that you have ever known I messed up. We finally at the finish line of competent three, I have gain a plethora of information from various perspectives.
The most important aspect that I learned is migrant have significant challenges but the greatest challenge is the health. Since of the left behind children or migrant children live in rural areas for beyond were professional aid get reach them. So my group decide that the greatest solution for this growing crisis is to create the migrant program like one in Belle Glade. That gives migrant children like myself the opportunity to rise like a phoenix, which are not bond to the statistics that hold us
back.
