In my opinion, the #sharingeconomy has been a happy accident for a generation (OUR generation) that often prioritizes internet connection over an intimate conversation. Airbnb has made any house feel like a "home", Task Rabbit has introduced a new meaning to the phrase "help your neighbor" and Uber has redefined the way we stumble home after a night out. One evening, I slipped into an #uber and ended up sharing with two strangers: a city banker and a girl who works for #tiffanysandco. In typical #newyork fashion, we got talking (if this was anywhere else you'd sit in silence and question the meaning of suede shoes, bonding over our how-I-ended-up-in-NY-paying-$2000-for-a-room stories. The first stop was for the banker who left us his business card, venturing into …show more content…
As two super sassy and social #foodies do, we exchanged @instagram handles and countless you-must-follow-this-ridiculously-photogenic-food-account tags later, the ultimate no-brainer sprang itself upon us. Why not cook and make a video about it? So, just like that, two random strangers who technically didn't even meet once as I sat in the front seat and refused to turn around (after midnight I more often than not resemble a low-res #finalfantasy creature) met up and feasted on: a #rainbowsalad made with citrus fruits, avocado, mint, feta, pistachios, lemon, onion and fennel with a side of mushroom faro dish topped with home-made roasted beet pesto and a scattering of Applewood smoked sea salt. Whether it's fast or farm-to-table, I've found food is a binder in friendships and in this case it led me to a new friend, another girl just trying to find her way through her 20s. And isn't that just lovely. In a day and age where we're told to be cautious of new people, guarded around old and wary of all - you can still find a good person or

The second article by Catharine Hamm circles around the fact that the sharing economy is so much more than just about money, in the same way as the first article. Catharine Hamm shares her peer-to-peer experience about when she was on a trip to Denver, where she found out that the sharing economy is about making connections, finding real people and getting insider information to experience a city more fully; “I met the nicest people, ate and slept well, found great office space, took a fun tour and learned a lot about my host city”(p.1, l.30-34). Furthermore, she claims that most of all the sharing economy is about trust, and that the trusting souls are a part of the sharing economy. She describes an experience with Beth Brandstatter through…

Thinking about the importance and significance of food respective to our health, ethnic culture and society can cause cavernous, profound, and even questionable thoughts such as: “Is food taken for granted?”, “Is specialty foods just a fad or a change in lifestyle?”, and even “Is food becoming the enemy.” Mark Bittman, an established food journalist, wrote an article called “Why take food seriously?” In this article, Bittman enlightens the reader with a brief history lesson of America’s appreciation of food over the past decades. This history lesson leads to where the social standing of food is today and how it is affecting not only the people of America, but also the rest of the world. Bittman attempts to display awareness in his audience by supporting his argument and encouraging his readers to see his perspective through three proofs of persuasion: ethos, logos, and pathos.…

From the beginning of when I can remember everything has been shared. Birthday parties, celebrations, pictures, graduation day and even small things like a room when I was younger. But I never minded it. Sharing with my twin brother seemed natural and it was almost strange that everyone else didn’t share like we did. But it seemed that everyone else didn’t think that we liked to share with each other. Throughout my childhood, I remember family and friends poking fun at our shared birthday parties with comments like “Don’t you wish you had your own party?” My answer is no. Many of my family members held the idea that sharing everything and ultimately being a twin was wretched…

The House I Live In by Eugene Jarecki is a documentary film about the war on drugs in the United States. It raises many contemporary intercultural concerns about the issue, but first it would be important to explain what cultural groups it highlights. We would first think about diving the war on drugs between drug users and law enforcement, but after watching this movie we can tell that there is a real intercultural issue amongst drug users and prisoners incarcerated for drugs. Indeed, we learn in the movie and its website that “even though White and Black people use drugs at approximately equal rates, Black people are 10.1 times more likely to be sent to prison for drug offenses. Today, Black Americans represent 56% of those incarcerated for drug crimes, even though they comprise only 13% of the U.S. Population”.…

This 4th of July, I invited my best friend Sara and her husband for a dinner at my house. For dinner we decided to bake chicken and lamb chops with side dish of potato egg salad, spicy garlic broccoli rabe, radish and chive edamame salad. For dessert, ice-cream and brownies and some red wine to drink. Sara volunteered to get potato egg salad and wine as I took the responsibility to cook the rest of the meals. I knew I only had a couple of hours before the dinner so I started cooking early. I marinated the meat and put the meat in the oven to bake and started working on the side dish. In 85 minutes, I was done with all my cooking. I quickly went upstairs, took a shower, got dressed and came downstairs just in time to welcome…

Food is something that everyone has in common. It is a topic that is referred to often in conversation. Friendships can be made based on two or more peoples interests in foods. Some people like to challenge their taste buds and explore outrageous flavors, while others stay within their comfort zone and more simple goods. Starting with the first Thanksgiving, the pilgrims and the Indians, to everyday meals that people take for granted now, food is something everyone has in common. The author of this article, Brian Wansink, makes multiple valid points about what people see, taste and experience in general about food. According to “The Name Game from Mindless Eating: Why We Eat More Than We Think” through senses such as sight, taste, and the sound of brand names can alter your willingness to consume certain foods and beverages.…

I have a boundless love for food and my family shares this love. Hopping from restaurant to restaurant, trying whatever catches our eyes, also catches quite a few stares. Sitting down in a Chinese restaurant draws the questionable looks of others. Most of the time, while the food is arriving, the waitress asks in broken English, while motioning to my siblings, my mom, and I , “Are chopsticks ok, would a fork be better?” or “Is that going to be too spicy?” Quickly shaking our heads, we turn back towards our meal and engulf the food in front of us while using chopsticks with ease. Our love of food never stops and no matter where I go, I always try different dishes because it is a part of who I…

For dinner I had chicken, a baked potato with sour cream and cheese, pasta salad, baked beans, another Coke, and some water.…
