Notes on Country Names China Notes: Hong Kong and Macau are Special Administrative Regions and from an Airline viewpoint have to be treated separately from the rest of the Peoples Republic of China.
With Taiwan the situation is more complex as it has an elected president a democratically elected government and is accepted by certain countries as being a sovereign nation. However it is viewed by the Chinese Government in Beijing as the 23rd province of China. This basic issue of sovereignty obviously results in challenges for Airlines wishing to operate to Taiwan and the rest of China,
