There are over 740 body scanners in more than 160 airports nationwide, as reported by aviation expert Bart Jansen. The scanners work by creating a 3D digital image of a person, identifying any objects that are present within the person’s clothing. The program offers expedited security for travellers who are approved by TSA, including leaving shoes and jackets on during screening and not needing to separate electronics and liquids from other carry on luggage. By using this program effectively for frequent fliers who do not pose a security threat, TSA is reducing inconvenience to travellers and shifting their focus to higher risk
