Akbari Mahal
Sara: So as the name suggests, was this Badshah Akbar’s palace, Abul?
Abul Fazl: In a way, yes.The ruins of Akbari Mahal meaning Akbar's Palace are a testimony to the presence of the huge imperial courts surrounded by a series of spacious chambers. Set between Jehangiri Mahal and Bengali Burj, it was a part of a larger palace complex and was used for various residential purposes. Built in between 1565-69, it had a large stone paved courtyard enclosed by suites and chambers. You can still see the few suites on the eastern side of the courtyard that have survived. You can enter it through the gateway on the western side, which was so designed that it ensured complete security for the women. There was a great Assembly hall with a high ceiling which

Abul Fazl: Come i will take you to The Bengali Burj which is to it’s southeast .
( The three of them arrive at the Bengali Burj)
As you can see, Bengali Bhurj has a spacious square hall with arched aisles. It has a domed ceiling and chevron design grace the nook-shafts of the arches. The well with five rows of rooms round it and steps leading to the water is the Akbar’s Baoli. Built with red sandstone, the palace complex uses simple carvings and architectural features. Architects introduced flat ceilings and brackets that could take place of pillars in the structure and make it all the more beautiful. The palace complex was capable of accommodating a large number of people and had good arrangements for water supply.
Sara: And what about the other one you mentioned? And what does the name of the palace mean Abul?
Abul Fazl: Jahangiri Mahal is one of the most beautiful buildings inside the Agra Fort. It was the chief palace for the royal ladies. It has been named after Jahangir by his father, Badshah

Sara: Of course it is David. All these designs are so eye catchy!
Abul Fazl: well, there is a lot that you still have to see and believe me its much more than what I can define verbally.
David : Hey ! I can see one garden also over there.
Abul Fazl: Thats the Anguri Bagh or the Garden of Grapes which was built for the royal ladies. It has a variety of grapes and flowers arranged in geometrical pattern and divided into various sections. ( The three of them start walking towards Muasamman Burj)
You know, It was only during the reign of Akbar's grandson, Shah Jahan, that the site looks like what it is today . Starting at the base of the Taj Mahal all sis elements of visual design, line, space, light and color, texture, pattern, and time and motion are all present. The Taj Mahal was completed in 1648 C.E. after 22 years of construction by Muslim Emperor Shan Jahan and master architect Ustad Isa. The Taj was erected on a square base that measures 186 x 186 feet, with the four corners truncated, which created an unequal octagon. Immediately upon first sight one can see the self-replicating geometry and symmetrical design. Varieties of lines are visible from straight lines of the base to the round dome 213 feet above. Each archway is exactly the same shape, pointed arch, but not all equal in size. Gems, designs and calligraphy can be found inside and out of the white marble masterpiece. The white marble design gives it a smooth texture and clean appearance. Depending on the time and light it will appear to change color, some say this identifies the moods of women. The color is reflected from the light and red sandstone used to construct surrounding structures. The reflection of the Taj can be seen on the Jumna River that flows on the backside of the Taj Mahal.…
