Alphonse Gabriel Capone,also known as Al “scarface” Capone,was an American gangster who led a prohibition-era crime by smuggling liquor,and conducting other illegal activities such as prostitution,in Chicago from the early 1920s to 1931.
Early life:
Al Capone was born in the district of Brooklyn in New York on January 17,1899.His father was a barber and his mother was a seamstress,were both immigrants from Italy.He dropped out of school at the age of 14,after being kick out for hitting a female teacher in the face.And then after that,Capone joined in the Brooklyn Rippers and then the Powerful Five Points Gang based in Lower Manhattan,with his great friend and his mentor Johnny Torrio.Capone received the scars that gave him the nickname “Scarface”in a fight.
Chicago career:
Al Capone got a call from Johnny Torrio,so he decided to depart New York for Chicago without his wife and his son in 1923.Torrio took over the criminal empire of Giacomo Colosimo”Big Jim”,a Mafia crime boss in Chicago.The Chicago Outfit,deal in prostitution,gambling and blackmailing.This organization competed with the North Side Gang.The two parts often made reprisals to each other.In 1925,Torrio was injured in an attack by the North Side Gang,so he turned over his business to Capone and returned to Italy.During the Prohibition Era,Capone found a new opportunity and took his advantage to make money by smuggling illegal alcoholic beverages in the city.He controlled large parts of the Chicago underworld,which provided the Outfit with probably 100 million per year in revenue;the highest revenue was genereated by the sale of liquor.
