This chapter presents the available literature and studies conducted that are crucial to the investigation of researchers in Pediculicide activity of Premna odorata leaves against Lipeurus caponis.
The Plant Material
The plant sample, Premna odorata Blanco (“Alagaw” in Filipino) is from the family of Verbenaceae/Lamiaceae genus Premna. It is also known as Alagau (Tagalog), Abgau (Bisaya), Fragrant premna (English), Saliargo (Central Bisaya). In the Philippines, a decoction of the leaves of alagaw is used for loosening phlegm and as a cough remedy. The timber is sometimes used if trees have reached larger dimensions. They are also used in hedges, occasionally also as ornamentals. Ripe fruits and cooked leaves are occasionally eaten.
Importance of Chickens
Poultry provides humans with companionship, food, and fiber in the form of eggs, meat and feathers (Darre, 2011). Chicken meat and eggs are the best source of protein and are badly needed by the many millions of people who live in poverty. It is providing not only high-quality protein but also important vitamins and minerals. A major advantage of eggs and poultry meat as human food is that there are no major taboos on their consumption. In addition, a chicken provides a meal for the average family without the need for a refrigerator to store left-overs (Farrell. 2014).
