Albert Pujols: Famous Baseball Player Came from Dominican Republic
There are many famous people that live in America that were born in foreign countries. One foreign country that I am researching is the Dominican Republic. Most baseball players that play in the Major League Baseball known as the MLB come from countries like Dominican Republic and Cuba. One famous person that came from the Dominican Republic was Albert Pujols. Albert Pujols born as Jose Alberto Pujols Alcantara was born January 16, 1980. After being born in the DR Albert and his family moved from to America in 1996. In high school Albert Pujols was an allstar at baseball being selected to participate in the allstar game in all four years in high school. Few teams were interested in Pujols because of uncertainty about his age, which position he would play, and his build. Thus, he was not drafted until the 13th round of the 1999 Major League Baseball (MLB) Draft, when the St. Louis Cardinals selected him with the 402nd overall pick. During spring training in 2001, Mark McGwire told Cardinals ' manager Tony La Russa "If you don 't put Pujols on the roster for the 2001 season, it might be one of the worst moves you make in your career. As a baseball player Albert accomplished a lot of things to make him one of the best baseball players in history.
Also Albert plays a role model for both Hispanic males who dream of what they want to be in the future. When Pujols was a child like most of us our age he dreamed of being a baseball player and practiced hard daily without hesitation. Most times in his career he usually reports back to the Dominican Republic so that he can give back to his community. Established in 2005, the Pujols Family Foundation helps families and children with Down syndrome and other disabilities or life-threatening illnesses. It also alleviates poverty in the Dominican Republic. If I were Dominican Republican my role model would be Albert Pujols because he is an inspiration to all Hispanics and shows Hispanics that they can be whatever they want to be
