It was his second day being in this outlandish place, he already fought with Charlie, befriended spiders, and built up a cosy yet unfinished base camp. In addition to that, he discovered a new way to live via his body and his mind - it has been quite an absurd time for him. In order to prevent what happened previously, he initiated picking up an array of resources around him such as flint, rocks, and twigs. He paused to study the flint and twigs, his drive incurred him to craft a pickaxe, and soon after he has a fine looking pickaxe.…
At the beginning of the story it is seen how badly Harry Potter is treated by the Dursley. He is forced to sleep in the cupboard under the stairs, they would talked to him like he was some sort of servant, Aunt Petunia would even prohibited him to ask questions, “don’t ask questions.” The character of the Dursley is of a grotesque, abusive, and conservative family, and this is observed by their decision of hiding Dumbledore’s letter and trying to prevent Harry from reading his acceptance letter to Hogwarts. “I accept there’s something strange about you…always knew they’d come to a sticky end”, this is what Harry’s uncle said sharing the same ideals as…
On page eight, Rookmaaker talks about how the 1800s in this manner, “Religion was fine as long as it was purely private and did not interfere with the important things in this world, science, philosophy, scholarship, the high arts.” I believe this is practiced even more in our century than his. Many people do not believe in God or Jesus and a lot of today’s definition of “art” supports this. However, there are still some authors and movie directors that not only believe but show this in their work. It is stated in Lewis’s biography that The Chronicles of Narnia, did, in fact, have a Christian theme. The main character portraying this was Aslan, the Lion and the King of Narnia, as he is said to have been a Jesus Christ figure. Another example…
In the beginning of the book it starts with a graphic murder of three Cubans. During this chapter, you get to know how the character Harry is —quick-minded, resourceful, risk-taking, honest. Harry represents in a way where he'd be kind of a perfect man. This character has a wife and three daughters back home in Key West. He has a desire of profiting within the political and economic climate simply for the sake of supporting his family. He gets offers many crime business proposals, but Harry doesn’t have much of a choice if he wants to make any money and return home safely. He feels lots of threats of danger hanging over his head, but he isn't dumb and always thinks quick of an escape plan. Harry is very coutious of anyone he does business with and is always one step ahead of them…
He often finds himself in situation he can’t control or in situation he wish not to be in. Raised by his Aunt and Uncle in the Muggles world his understanding about the magic world plays a great role in understanding the unfamiliarity and lack of a home in the wizard (For example, how surprised he found himself in the weasley family and home with open arms and warm feelings). He often finds himself questioning his belonging in hogwarts. In “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secret” the reader explore harry's inner battle and doubt but being in the magic house called “Slytherin” instead of his current house “Gryffindor.” It examines the aspect of self finding as a person who is trying to find him/herself in a place that is surreal in his/ her…
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets start off with Harry spending the summer with his horrible but only remaining family, the Dursleys. The Dursleys are not a very good family. On Harry’s birthday the Dursleys throw a dinner party that isn’t even for Harry. Harry is visited by a house-elf named Dobby. Dobby warns Harry not to return to Hogwarts because something bad is going to happen. Hogwarts is the magical school for wizards that Harry is attending. Harry doesn’t listen to the warning and Dobby starts to wreak havoc in the kitchen. The Dursleys end up angry and imprison Harry in his room for the rest of the summer. Harry's friend Ron Weasley takes Harry away in a flying car, and they go to the Weasley home where Harry ends up staying…
Harry came from a family of apple farmers and was given the name-sign Apple by his older brother, Ray, because of how he loved to pick up the apples from the ground and carry them around in his pockets. He misses his family at school, but he has a few adventures to take his mind off of it. He sees his first motorcar on the way to a local hearing church on Sunday. He is taken by surprise and amazed to see something like that before. He seeks out to find another motorcar or something similar to it, maybe even find one in Muncy. He enjoyed this new sport of football that he learned in school and helped strategize a way to beat a team from a hearing school who came to play. With this type of interaction with other students from the school, Harry has managed to make new friends from his classmates. He also endured tutoring from Mr.Bertie to help teach him how to speak. At first, he wasn’t really interested in learning anything and easily became bored. But when Mr.Bertie took him to the stable and showed him how to stop a horse from running by just yelling, he became open to the idea of learning. Harry rapidly absorbed…
“Jeremiah's message was a mixture of judgment on the sinful nation of Judah; and hope, after judgment and exile, of a new covenant relationship. Comparing the parallels between Judah and the spiritually low tide of our nation today, what message and teaching could be drawn from Jeremiah's portrayal of God as the Divine Potter? In a world fractured by religious, social, political, and culture tensions, how might we Christ Followers relate Paul's concept of "When the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son..." (Galatians 4:4 ESV) to an upside down 21st century world?”…
The Harry Potter book series has sold over 450 million copies and is currently translated into almost every language on the face of the earth. Millions have faithfully followed the story about this magical world and have fallen in love with the many enchanting characters, but most do not know the prominence of classical Greek mythological allusions found in the beloved Harry Potter characters. J.K Rowling, author of the Harry Potter series, does a fantastic job with cleverly connecting most of her main characters to classical Greek/Roman mythological figures that share very similar personality traits (and even sometimes the same name) to their wizard counterparts.…
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: The Original Screenplay is a fantastic book in my opinion because, since it is in a script form, it is very easy to direct in your head. The great detail in the story that J.K. Rowling executes perfectly creates not only a good story, but a whole new world. The characters are very lovable and believable and dives deep into their emotions and feelings. However, one of my main problems with the book is that we don’t learn much about the characters. In the story, we are shown a small fraction of Newt’s early life, a glimpse of Tina’s past, and not much about Jacob other than his job and motivation. Although it doesn’t affect the story much, it would be preferable to learn more about them so that the readers…
Albus Severus Potter understood why he was “cursed” with the name and that his dad and he had one thing in common, they had struggles and flaws. Harry talked to his son and said, “Everything comes easy for James (Albus’s brother). My childhood was a constant struggle” (Rowling 306). Albus replied to his father, “So I am like you” (Rowling 306). Harry then said, “ Actually you're like your mom...you saved us” (Rowling 306). Back to Albus, “Shouldn’t I have done better?” (Rowling 307). Harry’s last words to this conversation with his son were, “ I ask myself the same questions...whatever label you were given- I know- the know-that heart is a good one. The names you have isn’t a burden. Albus Dumbledore had is trails too and Severus Snape...They…
The Harry Potter series is unlike any other story of any book out there, it’s so special and unique because of the way it draws you inside of the story and just absolutely takes you away to a whole different world, it’s quite captivating. The book is so enthralling because it takes you into a realm of flying cars, talking animals, GIANT spiders, wicked spells and much more. As you progress throughout the series you meet tons of amazing characters and read about these characters mastering the hardest spells and conquering the most difficult tasks. These characters are the addiction of the reader, you become entranced in their life and you can step in to their shoes, experience what they experience, and relate to the common world problems of your everyday life. Just because they can shoot spells from their magic wands doesn’t mean they aren’t human. They have common teenage problems such as bullies,…
The Chrysalids by John Wyndham is an exhilarating story set in the future, which is post-apocalyptic world where a nuclear disaster has possible happened, so some people and plants have mutations. Most of the people are strictly religious believing that the mutants are not a true image of God, therefore need to be eliminated. David Strorm is a boy that grows up in a place called Waknuk, and he is able to communicate with people telepathically. David has been able to find others just like him, and they accept him. However David needs to keep this a secret from certain members of his family, such as his father, since he despises it, and will simply not accept it. David and the others will have to go through many obstacles in order to find a safer place for them to stay.…
The plot starts when Sirius Black, a convicted murderer, escapes the prison of Azkaban. As Harry learns about Sirius Black’s unforgivable pass, he’s emotions start to rise and boil. As the book twists and turns, it follows Harry in his magical world not only with his friends Ron and Hermione, but also with the troubles that occur. The Dementors (huge cloaked, black, figures that float in the air) plays a huge part in the story. As part of a precaution, Dementors are put on Hogwarts ground to catch Sirius Black and protect students and teachers of Hogwarts. A new teacher was also introduced in this story, Professor Remus Lupin, who takes “Defence Against the Dark Arts”. Lupin also becomes very close to Harry. My favourite part of the story was when Harry caught the Snitch in the Quidditch Finals against the Slytherins.…
