Alcohol Vs Marijuana
The cannabis us found to be a less harmful substitute for alcohol. It is safer than the spiritual drinks. Unlike cannabis, there is no known medical use for consumed alcohol. No subtantial evidence relates the weeds to domestic violence, severe crimes and traffic accidents, yet the hashish trade is illegal. Meanwhile, alcohol remains legal despite the fact that it has contributed to many social ills, including car accidents and horrible crimes. Statistics from the red cross show that the number of accidents in the country increased from 9546 in 2007 to 10649 in 2009 and the drunk driving is evaluated to be the number teo cause of traffic accidents in lebanon after speeding while those associated with marijuana use are harder to come by. Alain Joffe explains that there are some marijuana advocates that believe marijuana is safer than alcohol. Similarly, they also believe that if marijuana becomes legalized, shifting consumption from alcohol to marijuana may have a positive effect on society. While there are no studies that support this theory, there are studies that debate the contrary. These studies conclude that the two drugs are “economic complements” and both alcohol and marijuana use would increase reciprocally (Joffe, 2004).…

There are a numerous number of drugs in the United States. There is a drug like marijuana that you could smoke, get high from, and still pass a urinary test with it in your system. This drug can be called many things: legal spice, spice, legal, potpourri, and anything else someone might come up with. The two most common drugs used in the US have been legal spice and marijuana. The scientific term for legal spice is Synthetic Cannabis it is an herbal and chemical item that when smoked, mimics the effects of marijuana. It is best known as legal spice or K2. (http://web.ebscohost.com.ezproxy.apollolibrary.com/ehost/detail?vid=3&hid=106&sid=59ce6c0d-f7a1-4779-a1b8-6cab4e630f4d%40sessionmgr104&bdata=JnNpdGU9ZWhvc3QtbGl2ZQ%3d%3d#db=mnh&AN=21702397). There has been an increase in drug abuse by the use of legal spice which is mixed with different chemicals such as JWH-018. JWH-018 was first developed in 1995 for research, by organic chemist John W. Huffman at Clemson University in South Carolina. (http://syntheticmarijuana.wordpress.com/). He created this chemical compound and tried to find cannabinoid receptors in the brain. The parts that THC in marijuana bond with to produce feelings of euphoria and research shows he was successful in these findings. (http://syntheticmarijuana.wordpress.com/). These chemicals do not show up in the system but result in having a long term effect on the body. According to Huffman, “it doesn’t hit the brain in the same way as marijuana, and that’s why it’s dangerous.” (http://hightimes.com/news/mmiller/7144). Legal spice is known all around the US and in some places it is legal. In other cities it is not, because of the effects it causes on the body. Many people were smoking legal spice when it was “legal” because of the fact that it didn’t show up in a drug test. It was…

And marijuana is nowhere near as bad for you as cigarettes and alcohol, both of which are legal. Overdosing on alcohol can kill you, as can the drug’s withdrawal symptoms (it’s a damned-if-you-do, damned-if-you-don’t sort of thing). The Center for Disease Control attributes around 37,000 deaths every year to alcohol (not including accidental…

United States each year. By federally decriminalizing medical marijuana, these statistics can be changed. Prescription drugs, and over-the-counter medications are the leading causes of accidental overdose related death in the United States. Logistically speaking, it makes no sense for an ancient herb, with known medical and physiological benefits to be federally criminalized. By legalizing medical marijuana at the federal level, certain crimes have shown a decrease. Similarly, states with medical marijuana legalization have also shown a decrease in prescription pain killer addiction and overdose related deaths. In fact, there have been no known deaths which could be directly contributed to marijuana use. Statistics show that cannabis is a safer and smarter alterative to prescription medications. Maintaining a federal prohibition on marijuana for medical use not only unethical, it is inhumane. Marijuana must be federally decriminalized, not only to improve lives, but to save them as well.…

“Don’t say that marijuana is addictive or dangerous when it is neither” (Vidal). This is not a fact. Most people know that marijuana is addictive, especially if they have friends or loved ones who smoke marijuana regularly. The National Institute on Drug Use (NIDA) states that, “While not everyone who uses marijuana becomes addicted, when a user begins to seek out and take the drug compulsively, that person is said to be dependent or addicted to the drug. In 1995, 165,000 people attending drug treatment programs reported marijuana as their main drug of abuse, showing they need help to stop using the drug”. Also according to the National Institute on Drug Use marijuana use leads to other drug use. “Long-term studies of high school students and their patterns of drug use show that very few young people use other illegal drugs without first trying marijuana. For example, the risk of using cocaine is 104 times greater for those who have tried marijuana than for those who have never tried it. Using marijuana puts children and teens in contact with people who are users and sellers of other drugs. So there is more of a risk that a marijuana user will be exposed to and urged to try more drugs”. So how can marijuana not be dangerous if it can lead to use of other drugs that are extremely dangerous such as “speed”? Marijuana can also affect driving and lead to car accidents. “In one study conducted in Memphis, TN, researchers found that, of 150 reckless drivers who were…

Marijuana and alcohol are the two most threatening drugs used in America today. Marijuana is the most illicit drug while alcohol is the most abused. Both were illegal during the prohibition but when the constitution was ratified in 1933 alcohol was made legal while marijuana remained illegal. It does not mean that because alcohol is still legal it’s less dangerous than marijuana. Both drugs lead to serious risks and should be taken with caution if used.…

What is marijuana? marijuana, as most know it, is derived from the plant cannabis indica. The leaves and flowering buds of the female cannabis plant are harvested and dried. The product of this process is called, among many other titles, marijuana. Cannabis is a schedule 1 drug, considered illegal in the United States. The reason for this? Smoking marijuana gets you high. The sensation of a high is hard to describe. THC, the active ingredient in marijuana, mimics the neurotransmitter anadamide, producing a slightly euphoric, stimulated, thought provoking high. Recently, marijuana has been a strong topic of debate, support for its legalization has been growing steadily. It has already been decriminalized in 18 states, and is now legalized in 2. It seems marijuana is on the fast track to social and legal acceptance, and for good reason. marijuana should be federally recognized as legal because of its relatively insignificant ill side effects, adversely positive medical value, and public support. Alcohol is one of, if not the most, popular drug in America, and its not exactly safe. Alcohol is linked to upwards of 75,000 deaths per year. To put that into perspective, thats twice as many deaths per year caused by firearms (suicide and homicide alike). This toll is accepted for a simple reason, we love alcohol. Bars and liquor stores line our city streets.. On weekend evenings, getting drunk with your buddies is a social norm. As a nation, our government attempted to end this statistic via prohibition. Making alcohol illegal didn’t stop Americans from drinking, crime…

    Cannabis and Marijuana

Marijuana was first used for medicinal purposes dating back as early as the 1600’s. However, a law was passed in 1930, which banned the substance. Since then we have been fighting a never-ending war on drugs that has estimated to be over a trillion dollar failure, and we have nothing to show for it. There are many different takes on legalizing marijuana nation-wide but some states are not convinced yet. There are two main views on legalizing cannabis. One is the government view, which believes if marijuana was taxed like alcohol and tobacco it could yield close to 50 billion in tax revenue annually. Along with this, legalizing the drug would save the U.S. about $41 billion a year in enforcing the drug laws, and using that for education and health. The other view would be the medicinal use side of it. Proponents of medical marijuana argue that it can be a safe and effective treatment for the symptoms of cancer, AIDS, multiple sclerosis, pain, glaucoma, epilepsy, and other conditions. The government should legalize marijuana for recreational and medical use because it will create tax revenue, help patients, and we will be done fighting an everlasting war.…

It was estimated that around 12000 people died in accidents in 2008 because of drunken drive case. About 32% of total traffic fatalities were caused because of high alcohol level in driver’s blood. In US, the average death rate because of alcohol is 85000 per year. It is medically proved that marijuana is less harmful than alcohol. It is a fact that there is no case of overdose of marijuana. Marijuana has never been the cause of death or any casualties. The tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) found in marijuana gives both relaxing and alerting effect on the human body. These substances in the cannabis makes it beneficial and curative.…

Everyone that lives in California knows that there is a drug war going on in our state. In America today, marijuana is the most commonly used illegal drug. On the news or newspapers you see stories being done on the raided medicinal marijuana clinics. Even though pot is legal to the state, the FDA doesn’t approve of it, and will tear down any major clinics they find. I feel as though this is unfair. There are multiple people with green cards, and need marijuana for illnesses such as, glaucoma, depression, anorexia, and cancer; and they’re getting it taken away, and a lot of the reason they need it, is because their original prescribed medicine is costing them too much, and they need a cheaper alternative.…

The legality of marijuana has been the subject of debate and controversy for decades. Cannabis, another name for marijuana, is illegal to consume, use, possess, cultivate, transfer or trade in most countries. Marijuana is the most commonly abused illegal drug in the United States. It is a greenish brown mixture of dried leaves, stems, seeds, and flowers from the hemp plant. It has been used most commonly as a medicine, a food, a fiber and an intoxicant for thousands of years (“Why People,” 2010). Marijuana intoxication can cause distorted perceptions, impaired coordination, difficulty with thinking…
