Right now it may seem like the situation is hopeless, I know I did before I started making changes in how I was interacting with the alcoholic in our family. The only thing I know is that by making a commitment to attend support group meetings and asking others for help, I began to get my life back on track. The alcoholic is still drinking to this day seven years after I started making changes.
You see, they are not going to change until the hit a bottom and then ask for help. So, this leaves the responsibility with us to make changes in ourselves that will affect the entire family. These changes will bring more peace and serenity into your life. Why should the entire family suffer because of ones persons poor choices and illness.
Just by reading this, you have started to move in a more positive direction. The most important relationships we have in our lives are with our family members. It is possible to live with and love an alcoholic spouse, brother, sister, or child in great capacity. You will just need to continue in this direction of getting more interconnected with people who can help
